Owen County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky.
In the county the population was spread out with 25.50% under the age of 18, 8.40% from 18 to 24, 28.00% from 25 to 44, 24.10% from 45 to 64, and 14.00% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county was $33,310, and the median income for a family was $38,844.

Owen County was formed from sections of Franklin, Gallatin, and Scott counties on February 6, 1819, and was named in honor of Col. Abraham Owen, Indian fighter and Kentucky legislator, who was killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe.
Owen County remains an agricultural area, in which tobacco, hay, and corn are the predominant crops.
The population of Owen County was 7,470 in 1970; 8,924 in 1980; and 9,035 in 1990.

Owen County is located in the Outer Bluegrass (Northern Brush) region of the state and named for Colonel Abraham Owen (soldier, member of the constitution, aide-de-camp to General Harrison at the Battle of Tippecanoe where he was killed on November 7, 1811).
In 1998 the county population was 10,264 (down from the 17,500 tops of 1880-1900) in a land area of 352 square miles, an average of 29 people per square mile.
