In 1905 the village of Montford was annexed to the city, and though a few structures survived from the original village, Montford lost its autonomous identity.

The architects and builders of Montford were strongly influenced by a variety of progressive styles and design ideas that were emerging nationally in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

The Montford Point Marine Association is a nonprofit Veteran's organization, established to perpetuate the legacy of the first African Americans who entered the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1949, at Montford Point Camp, New River, North Carolina.
The activities vary from chapter to chapter and include, but are not limited to youth programs, visits to nursing homes, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, and delivering Christmas baskets to the needy.
Membership in the Ladies Auxiliary is open to wives, daughters, sisters, and mothers of members or former members of the United States Armed Forces.

The integration of the Marines marked the beginning of the end for officially sanctioned segregation in America, but the introduction of fl Marines was so ridden with racism that at times it was difficult to say whether the Corps was more at war with itself or with the Japanese.
In January 1945, he became Sergeant Major of the Montford Point Camp and in June of that year joined the 52nd Defense Battalion on Guam, also as Sergeant Major, remaining in that assignment until the unit disbanded in 1946.
In July of 1990, at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Montford Point Marine Association held at the Philadelphia Adams Mark Hotel, Master Gunnery Sgt. Gray (Retired) was designated President Emeritus/Founder of the Montford Point Marine Association.
