The Montgolfier brothers, Joseph Michel Montgolfier (August 26, 1740 –; June 26, 1810) and Jacques Étienne Montgolfier (January 6, 1745 –; August 2, 1799), (Someone who is the first to think of or make something) inventors of the montgolfière (Click link for more info and facts about hot air balloon) hot air balloon.
This was performed at (A city in north central France near Paris; site of the Palace of Versailles that was built by Louis XIV in the 17th century) Versailles, before (Click link for more info and facts about Louis XVI of France) Louis XVI of France, to gain his permission for a trial human flight.
Only one of the brothers (the exact one is unkown) ever flew himself in a balloon, and then only once.

The Montgolfier brothers, Joseph Michel Montgolfier (August 26, 1740 – June 26, 1810) and Jacques Étienne Montgolfier (January 6, 1745 – August 2, 1799), inventors of the montgolfière hot air balloon.
Only one of the brothers (the exact one is unknown) ever flew himself in a balloon, and then only once.
Hot air balloons soon were superseded by hydrogen gas balloons and did not return until the 1960s when Raven Industries improved the safety of the classic Montgolfier design by using ripstop nylon for the envelope and propane gas as the burner fuel.

The beginning of the development of the balloon was the work of two brothers, Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier, who came to the conclusion that a paper bag filled with a ‘substance of a cloud-like nature’ would float in the atmosphere.
Progress was made gradually, and the first person-carrying ascent took place in October 1783, when Pilatre de Rozier went up in a Montgolfier captive balloon.
The first woman to ascend was Madame Thible, who went up from Lyons in 1784.
