MONTREAL, May 13 2004 - The executive committee of the city of Montreal today approved a plan to improve McGill St. between de La Commune St. and St. Jacques St. The work will include repairing infrastructure, roads, sidewalks, urban furniture and lighting.
The cost of the work is $9.5 million, $8 million of which will be funded by the city of Montreal while the Minister of Culture and Communications of the Quebec government, as part of an agreement titled the cadre de l'Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal, will spend $1.5 million.
Montreal city council must approve this decision and will invite the Quartier International de Montréal, which is responsible for co-ordinating the re-design of public spaces in the district, to realize this project.

In Newmarket, Ont., where the first infected bird was found a month earlier than last year, health officials plan to move up the timetable for spreading larvicide to help prevent mosquitoes from growing out of the larval stage.
In Quebec, authorities began spreading the biological larvicide BTI in one Montreal borough on Monday as scheduled.
