Monty Python, or The Pythons, is the collective name of the creators and stars of Monty Python's Flying Circus, a British television comedy sketch show that first aired on October 5, 1969.
The origin of "Monty" is somewhat confused, but Idle claims it was a popular and rotund fellow who drank in his local pub.
When Monty Python's Flying Circus was shown in the USA by ABC in their "Wide World of Entertainment" slot in 1975 the episodes were re-edited, thus losing the continuity and flow intended in the originals.
