  Monument Records - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Monument Records was a record label founded in 1958 by Fred Foster and Bob Moore.
From a recording studio in the Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee they produced a variety of sounds including Rock and Roll, Country and Western, and Rhythm and Blues.
His first recording was by Billy Grammer, titled "Gotta Travel On." However, it was the signing of the ex Sun Records star, Roy Orbison, that brought great success, starting with the 1960 hit, Only the Lonely.

Sumrall spends his days going out to cemeteries, tape recorder in hand, to record all information from the person's monument, including the person's name, date of birth to date of death, and all other information on the monument.
Sumrall said gravesite markers and monuments can say a lot about a person n how elaborate they were, what kind of person they were, as well as the trends in monument design at the time.

 Coll. 29: Monmouth Battle Monument Commission Records, 1854, 1878-1932
The work of the Monmouth Battle Monument Commission began after a speech by Gov. Joel Parker was delivered June 28, 1877 at the 99th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Monmouth.
On November 13, 1884, the monument was officially unveiled and dedication ceremonies were held.
In 1894, the monument statue, Columbia Triumphant, was struck by lightning and damaged.

Monument Records founder Fred Foster was recently in the hospital for quadruple bypass surgery after a heart attack, and as painful as that news was, it seemed like a good moment to look back at someone who had an impact on Nashville for three decades-in terms of widening the city's musical base.
The discography of Monument is extensive and included, most notably, Roy orbison and Kris Kristofferson, artists who shook country's aesthetic sensibilities and Nashville's business practices, as well as Ray Stevens, Boots Randolph, Charlie McCoy, Tommy Roe and the Gatlin Brothers.
Monument had its own studios in Nashville, and-like Norbert Putnam, that other gentleman outlaw who built a pop music empire under the noses of Music Row-Foster launched his vision of what Nashville could be.

Monument continued into the early 1980s and Fred Foster even had another opportunity to record Roy Orbison, when Orbison came back to Monument to record the album Regeneration in 1976, but the two failed to rekindle the magic they had in the early '60s.
The third Monument label was similar to the second except the concentric circles were eliminated around the center hole and the swirl was rainbow colored.
