  NationMaster - Encyclopedia: MooLatte
MooLatte is a new (introduced in July, 2004) blended coffee drink from Dairy Queen.
The drink's name has been criticized because of its resemblance to the racial term 'mulatto', which refers to a person who is half-white and half-fl and is sometimes used as a pejorative.
She forcefully refuses and in a state of panic invoked by the horror she might lose her delicious new drink, she runs away, still blindfolded, and crashes into a door falling to the floor.

Snark Hunting | Moove on: the MooLatte naming flap
A friend recently alerted Chatterbox that Dairy Queen is marketing a new frozen drink called the MooLatte.
What he meant was that “MooLatte” sounds a lot like “mulatto,”; which is a word, not in much use nowadays, that describes a person whose father is white and mother is fl or (less common in bygone days) the other way around.
Of course MooLatte is not just an entirely made-up word: (at least subconsciously) it is a direct play-on-words.

She takes a sip from unmarked cup number one then a sip from the labeled Dairy Queen cup, then saying, “MMM, this one is fantastic (sluurrrrrrp).” The researchers conclude that she chose “the new DQ MooLatte” and attempt to take the cup away from her saying that the test is over.
She forcefully refuses and in a state of panic invoked by the horror she might lose her delicious new drink, she runs away, still blindfolded, and crashes into a door falling to the floor.
The scene is then cut away to a new montage of three tasty looking MooLatte’s as a voice over talks about the new MooLatte and its three delicious flavors.

An African-American woman is crying at a picnic table, with a Moolatte in front of her.
As he's comforting her, the boyfriend is trying to sip the drink's straw, obviously distracted by the deliciousness of the Moolatte.
It's a given that the name Moolatte is suspect (especially since it blends brown coffee with white ice cream!), but to feature an African-American couple in the ad is so beyond clueless.

eG Forums -> The Tragic MooLatte
I had my first Moolatte a couple of weeks ago at a DQ in New Jersey and thought it was quite good.
It wasn't until last week, still unaware of any controversy, that a couple of us were reliving the glory of the Moolatte and it dawned on us: the thing is just about halfway between cream and brown in color and it sounds really close to mulatto any way you pronounce it.
Had Moolatte been the name of a tuna sandwich that just happens to sound a little bit like the term mulatto, then opposing the use of that term would be an example of political correctness.

Yknow a couple months or so ago DairyQueen's new coffee-esque dessert beverage drink "The MooLatte" was greeted by scorn an anger an such from various people who condemned it as racist an insensitive.
What the MooLatte™ deslivers is the unique giant sloshin-together of ice cream an stuff that is sorta-like-ice-cream-but-possibly-not ice cream in one cool-whippy package.
Fafblog is proud to give the the MooLatte™ two racially delicious thumbs up, an looks forward to the day when all ethnically-dubious desserts are judged by the tastiness of their character an not by the way they seem to judge the color of people's skin.

Vancouver Marketing Consultant Blog by Andrea Coutu
Dairy Queen's latest creation, the Moolatte, is creating a stir.
Now, I must admit that, upon first hearing "Moolatte", my in-brain Napster engine turned on a Dean Martin rendition..."Moolatte, whoa-oh, Moolatte...oh, oh, oh, oh!" However, after seeing a couple of ads for the 600-calorie (moo, indeed) caffeine shake, I started thinking the word sounded a lot like "mulatto".
I thought that, perhaps, Dairy Queen hoped to gain media attention for its efforts, but, as of my press time, Google shows just 35 results for "moolatte + mulatto" -- mostly blogs -- and zero results in news stories.

Igor | Extra botch: Dairy Queen MooLatte revisited
(See “The Tragic MooLatte,” July 14.) That the Minneapolis-based company would deliberately allude to the hoary stock character of the “tragic mulatto”; in naming a drink of light brown hue is too ghastly a possibility to consider.
We were also thinking — the MooLatte has three separate flavors, but if you took eight flavors and combined them, you could call it the Octoroonie.
It’s possible that Dairy Queen has belatedly figured out that MooLatte is a name likely to cause racial offense and has decided that its best public-relations strategy is to play dumb whenever it gets razzed about it.

You read right: the freaking Moolatte, which is both etymologically and frighteningly similar to the 18th-century term mulatto, which referred to someone of mixed (usually half-fl, half-white) parentage.
