Seems the moonbats, like boll weevils and deer ticks, are just about everywhere-heads swiveling around, note books at the ready, paranoia racing at mach speed; searching diligently for the faintest sign that somebody, somewhere might want to express their belief that there is a higher power at work in the universe.

"Moonbat" is supposed to single out those out on an extreme - for example, people who think Halliburton hatched a conspiracy to make it look like Islamic terrorists were behind 9/11, so they could justify a war to exploit Mid-Eastern oil.
It increasingly also suggests too many taking the whole "moonbat" thing WAY more seriously than the light-hearted sense in which the term was originally coined.
There is also the fact that I have read too many leftwing blogs undermine their attempt to make serious points by their own indiscriminate use of the parallel term lefties use for righties, "wingnut." It seriously damages their credibility to anyone not already sympathetic to their own politics.
