Mr. Moonquake: Old Apollo data gains new relevance as scientists revisit the pioneering research of Yosio Nakamura
But Nakamura is not an astronomer; he is a seismologist—a pioneering founder of lunar seismology, the study of "moonquakes," seismic events on the moon similar to earthquakes.
Most surprising were moonquakes that seemed to be occurring nearly halfway to the center of the moon, at about 1,000 kilometers, deeper than any earthquake ever recorded.
The early Apollo scientists, including Nakamura, found 1,360 of these deep moonquakes through the arduous process of plotting the seismogram record on translucent papers and then using a light table to visually compare their wave patterns one by one.

Therefore, the booster sections of the Apollo Lunar Orbiter were deliberately crashed into the Moon once their fuel had been spent, thus providing much higher energy to be propagated into the Moon, increasing the depth of resolution to about 25 km depth.
After recording had occurred for several months, it also became apparent that these Moonquakes increased in strength and frequency at the times when the Moon was furthest and closest from the Earth (the "apogee" and "perigee" respectively).
Using the simple fact that the seismic energy from a Moonquake source deep within the Moon will take different times to arrive at different surface locations (each of the Apollo "passive" seismometer stations), scientists were able to determine with reasonable precision the location of the Moonquake sources.

 Acorn Gaming: Free game: Moonquake
Moonquake was the first decent Bomberman clone released for Acorns, written by Paul Taylor and originally published on the December 1992 Archimedes World coverdisc.
The game is set on the moon, and following a meteor impact you have been called in to clear away the debris that has fallen into a moonbase, travelling from level to level using an infinite collection of bombs to blast away rubble.
Moonquake has since been followed up more recently by a sequel, Marsquake, which adds lots of improvements including many more features and options.

Moonquake-Proof Habitats by Robert Heinlein from Gentlemen, Be Seated
The Moon is geologically (selenologically!) active; instruments left by the Apollo astronauts from 1969 to 1972 demonstrate that from 600-3000 quakes occur per year.
Shallow moonquakes (only 20-30 kilometers below the surface) have energy equivalent to Richter 5.5 quakes on Earth, and can last for ten minutes or more.
Heinlein also identifies tidal stress as the cause of moonquakes:
