This fact testifies the popularity of the book, but somehow because of the famous comment by TS Eliot, "The Moonstone" is likely to be regarded as 'detective fiction.' The fact is slightly different, and you have to keep that in mind before you read it.
Remember, "The Moonstone" is primarily a Victorian novel, and Wilkie Collins is one of the best friends of Charles Dickens, who wrote "Great Expectations" which attacks the idea of 'gentleman.' The story is told by many characters themselves, and they unwittingly reveal the hidden side of their personalities in the narrative.
The Moonstone is a slow-paced detective novel written in the 19th century in London, England.

This book was intended to look like the actual chronicle of the First Phantom, with the "olde English" manuscript printed in a florid hand-written font on pages with a parchment effect, weathered by the occasional ink spot and cup stain for added authenticity.
But there lay the major fault of the book: it attempted to be a simple chronicle but was presented in a style aimed to visually entertain the reader which therefore diluted it's authenticity.

Moonstone Books - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Moonstone is the first US publisher to produce new Phantom stories for the comic book format since Marvel Comics cancelled their Phantom 2040 comic in 1995.
Only five books, written by Tom DeFalco, Ben Raab and Ron Goulart, were published, but in 2003, Moonstone started a regular comic book series with the character, written by Ben Raab, Rafael Nieves, and Chuck Dixon, and drawn by the likes of Pat Quinn, Jerry DeCaire, Nick Derington, Rich Burchett and EricJ.
Due to the success of the Kolchak collection, Moonstone have recently announced two new prose anthologies with The Phantom, one with The Spider, one with The Avenger and one with Doc Savage.

 Sequart.com Columns > Optic Verve #31: Comics Published on 16 April 2003
Moonstone Books is known primarily (at least to me) as a company that produces overpriced, but entertaining, fl-and-white noir comics.
For the most part, it appears that the Moonstone Noir line is a series of one-shots, at best a range of "pilot episodes," if you will, testing the waters for possible ongoings.
As such, the closest thing Moonstone has to a regular series is the fact that they've produced a relatively large amount of comics based on The Phantom (as well as some White Wolf Games licensed material) in a short amount of time.

Comic Book Galaxy - Celebrating Five Years of Pushing Comix Forward
The first segment of the book is framed as a series of stories told to a member of Geronimo's last band of fighting men, a meagre group of 16 warriors facing its final battle.
As a a series of comic books (which appears to have been the original intent, given the book's format), I can't imagine how this work could possibly have succeeded, since there is no tension, no buildup, nothing to keep the reader coming back for more.
As for the visual aspect of the book, Chaz Truog's inking and pencil work is impressive, and his page design is also very strong, particularly in the second section, where movement and action is skillfully depicted in overlapping panels, inset drawings, and a variety of framing techniques.

 Pop Thought -- Alex Ness
You see, I liked Moonstone Books right away due to what I thought was a smart way of approaching the market but not always their product.
I believe that that time has arrived as the product coming from Moonstone now is uniformly good, while still presenting the reader with numerous different genres to consider, and I have heard that the formats to come in the near future will help expand their reach, and hopefully that of the industry.
When we did the BIG Moonstone push...five years ago(?) we were really thinking along the lines of "what's not present in the industry now", and "how to market outside of the industry".

In fact, from Halloween through the end of 2005, Moonstone Books will be commemorating their 10th year with more new projects.
Moonstone Books started out publishing creator-owned comics in 1995, at a time when the industry had just experienced the Image explosion (or implosion, depending on which side of the fence that you’re in) and yes, everybody was feeling the aftermath of the entire phenomenon.

 Pulp and Dagger -- Review
Like a lot of comics publishers trying to crack the market, Moonstone Books has put much faith in pre-existing properties -- figuring that if you're trying to draw the interest of a reader, a recognizable name might at least cause them to pause in their browsing.
Added to Moonstone's list is a series of Kolchak graphic novels that they've done over the last couple of years and, now, a regular comic book series.
Based at least on these comics, I'd say Moonstone has done a pretty decent job of capturing the essence of the original series, and they warrant a look both for long time fans, and for the just curious.
