 Croxley tube station -
The only intermediate station on the branch, Croxley lies between Watford, (the terminus) and Moor Park on the main line from Baker Street to Amersham.
Intermediate stations would be built or rebuilt at Ascot Road (near the old Croxley Green station), Watford West railway station and Watford High Street railway station.
Croxley is a London Underground station in the Three Rivers district of Hertfordshire.

 Metropolitan Line -
The current station is located in a housing estate by Cassiobury Park, rather than serving the centre of Watford.
The four-track layout for part of the distance — between Baker Street and Moor Park — allows for the running of express or "fast" services to the outer suburbs.
The first section was opened from near Paddington to Farringdon Street (now Farringdon station) in January 1863; work on the railway had begun in February 1860 using the "cut-and-cover" method of construction.

LRB James Meek : Crocodile's Breath
The Northern and City from Moorgate to Finsbury Park was built in 1904, the Bakerloo and Piccadilly Lines in 1906, and the Hampstead Tube from Charing Cross to Golders Green and Archway in 1907.
Although Down the Tube was written with real anger, and some disbelief, he concedes that the Underground’s problems have been intensified, in a way nobody predicted in the nadir of 1982, by a doubling of passenger numbers, caused by the choking of the roads and the introduction of Travelcards by the first Livingstone regime.
I returned to the station a few days later, in circumstances more typical of Underground journeys: a cold, wet, midweek evening, just after 6 p.m., as the offices of Clerkenwell were emptying into the underworld for the commute home.

Metropolitan Line Services, Tracks and Train Indicators
This is not useful, because if you want to know the platform for the Amersham train, you have to know whether it has been fast or semi on its way from London to Moor Park (all of the seven skippable stations are between London and Moor Park).
At Moor Park there are no electronic indicators.
Some stations near the Aldgate end of the line have the old style sign telling you the destination only without the stopping pattern.

Hanover Square is a short walk from Oxford Circus station, but a direct interchange with the Victoria and other lines there has been ruled out due to the cost of altering that complex station.
In the early 1990s, the tunnel was planned to come to the surface in the vicinity of Shoreditch East London Line station and would cut through the alignment of the East London Line, necessitating the closure of the Shoreditch branch.

Despite the division of the network between some 25 private operators, it is still possible to buy a ticket from any station to any other station, irrespective of who runs the train(s) between them.
There is a through train from Glasgow Central station to Birmingham New Street station usually every 2 hours, with connecting trains available in between.
When a train journey involves a connection across London (between different terminal stations), the ticket is usually valid on the London Underground (metro) - it is not usually necessary to buy a separate London Underground ticket.

Long-Distance Walks: London Loop: Day 11: Elstree to Cockfosters
As you head north over the main road the Loop ducks into serious commuter belt, which is hardly surprising given that High Barnet tube station is just down the road.
The last three miles from Barnet to Cockfosters are sublime, so if you're not too fussed about completing the whole Loop and fancy a good long day walk, you could do worse than start at High Barnet station and walk all the way through to the end of day 12.
The first hour of this walk is dismal, and is probably the least interesting section on the entire Loop, but persevere and the rewards are there.

There are many many other words (I think my dictionary yielded about 640) which fulfill the same criterion for St John's Wood.

In the Royal Borough of Kingston, where I live, the council is always doing surveys and consulting residents (and then, it seems, ignoring what they say and introducing stupid residents' parking schemes or selling off yet another piece of land for an office or luxury housing block, rather than a park or a school).
A few years ago, RBK (as it calls itself) included in one of these surveys a comparative question in which local taxpayers were asked to rank services in order of value to them.
