An armoire desk is a writing-table built within a large cabinet usually having the height of a tall man or a small woman, or anything in between.
The closest ancestor, in form, of the armoire desk, is the Moore desk.
This kind of armoire desk is a morphological descendant of the famous Wooton desk by its size and by the necessity to constantly store papers to shut it.

Upon returned it a few minutes before midnight, I was informed that the circulation desk employees always leave early and before the actual closing of the library.
The closing bell rings at 30 minutes before closing, 15 minutes before closing and at the closing hour............Circ desk staff ring that bell so the idea that all of the staff leave at 11:40 is unlikely.
At least 2 to 3 desk staff and students are available at the service desk until the library closes.

 Cool Things - Lou Grant's Desk - Kansas State Historical Socity
The comedy show revolved around main character Mary Richards (played by Mary Tyler Moore) and her career in the newsroom of a fictitious Minneapolis television station.
This desk was probably the most important prop in the stage office of Mary's crusty boss, Lou Grant, played by Kansas native Ed Asner.
It served to physically and symbolically separate Lou from his subordinates, and probably was chosen by the prop department because of its stereotypical appearance as a cheap, standard office desk.
