At its base, a nine-hole golf course is among the few reminders of the historic Mount Kineo House, which in the late nineteenth century was one of the largest hotels in America.
During the era of grand hotels, when visitors reached Moosehead via railroad, 50 steamboats plied the lake, taking visitors to their respective destinations, often along side woods crews going to or from remote lumber sites (sometimes with their teams of horses on board).
