Moranbah State High School students will be well equipped for the jobs of the future with about $40,000 worth of new computer hardware and software.Premier Peter Beattie and Education Minister Anna Bligh have urged Queensland secondary school students to enter a statewide competition honouring the 60th anniversary of the Battle for Australia.
Mr Beattie said all Queensland secondary school students were eligible to submit a 1000-word written response focussing on war-time recollections and reflections of the experience of Queenslanders during the Battle for Australia in 1942.

Queensland's 13 per cent Gas Scheme is providing a major boost to the burgeoning coal seam gas industry and regional Queensland's development boom, Energy Minister John Mickel said today.
The Moranbah plant supplies electricity to the Gas Project with Ergon Energy purchasing gas to supply electricity into the national electricity grid at Moranbah.
The Moranbah Gas Project, a joint venture between coal-seam-gas producer and explorer CH4 and BHP Billiton, has a contract to supply gas to Enertrade for the Townsville Power Station and other commercial customers.

 Walkabout - Moranbah
Like so many of the towns in the area (particularly the modern coal towns) Moranbah likes to see its origins in Ludwig Leichhardt's observation in January 1845 that he had found 'water worn fragments of good coal' in the region.
The fact that no coalmining occurred for the next 120 years seems to be ignored by those eager to make a connection between the explorer and a town which sprang into existence in 1969.
The area was settled in the 1850s by some famous Queensland pastoralists, including Andrew Scott who called his cattle station Moranbah, and the Archer family who moved into the Peak Downs area.

CH4 Gas is developing the natural gas resource, in Queensland's Bowen Basin, at a 260 square kilometre petroleum lease it holds in an equal partnership with BHP Billiton Ltd.
Worley Queensland director Mike Mollison said he was pleased to contribute to the state's growing CSG industry.
"As a company we believe that CSG in Queensland will become a major industry for the state and be critical to the state's energy needs, providing a clean and environmentally friendly energy source," Mollison said.

After first opening in the 1990s, the Moranbah North Coal Mine, Queensland began to experience problems with the trunk conveyor belt, which suffered splice failures and delamination.
For a mine producing around five million tons of coal per year, the poor reliability of the belt was a major problem, which eventually became intolerable.
In the event of trunk belt shutdown, the costs in terms of lost production at Moranbah North were estimated at over A$1million per day.

Ms Boyle's office maintains that the decision won't leave Moranbah with a shortage of housing sites and two independent town planning consultants have indicated that Moranbah's immediate land supply is secure for the next two years.
