The Moravian Church in America is engaged in dialogue with a group of Reformed Churches (Presbyterian Church in the USA, United Church of Christ, Reformed Church in America, and Christian Church - Disciples of Christ).
Moravians have long had close relations with the United Methodist Church, but are not engaged in a formal dialogue.
The Moravians are also in dialogue with the Episcopal Church of the USA and share in an agreement of interim eucharistic sharing.

The Church is divided into 65 synods, one which is non-geographical (the Slovak Zion Synod) and 64 regional synods in the United States and the Caribbean, each headed by a synodical bishop and council.
The Church is a result of a merger between the Lutheran Church in America (LCA), the American Lutheran Church (ALC) and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches (AELC), all of which had formally agreed in 1982 to unite after several years of discussions.
As a Lutheran church body, the ELCA professes belief in the "priesthood of all believers", or that all baptized persons have equal access to God and are all called to use their gifts to serve the body of Christ.

The Moravian Church, or Unitas Fratrum (Unity of Brethren), as it has been officially known since 1457, arose as followers of Hus gathered in the village of Kunvald, about 100 miles east of Prague, in eastern Bohemia, and organized the church.
By 1467 the Moravian Church had established its own ministry, and in the years that followed three orders of the ministry were defined: deacon, presbyter and bishop.
Moravian settlers purchased 500 acres to establish the settlement of Bethlehem in 1741.

LONG BEACH, June 30 --The General Assembly concurred on Wednesday with the recommendation of the Committee on Catholicity and Ecumenical Relations that the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) engage in "church-to-church" talks with the Episcopal Church, the Moravian Church in America, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America.
He said the two churches "absolutely like each other in every respect," and that full communion is the objective of the talks.
The Episcopal Church has about 1.2 million members; the Moravian Church, which is an international church, has about 30,000 members; the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, whose membership is predominantly white, has a membership of about 100,000; and the Cumberland Church in America, which is predominantly African-American, has about 30,000 members.
