The UK general election, 1983 was held on June 9, 1983 and gave the Conservatives and Margaret Thatcher the second most decisive election victory since that of Labour in 1945.
Moray (Moireibh in Gaelic), one of 32 unitary council regions in Scotland, lies in the north-east of the country and borders on the regions of Aberdeenshire and Highland.
The UK general election, 2001 was held on 7 June 2001 and was dubbed the quiet landslide by the media.

My constituents need to understand their entitlement and to feel in control of their income, and that can be particularly true for claimants returning to work after long periods off sick or after having children.
Constituents have reported that they have spent more than half an hour on the phone to the tax credits helpline trying to get an explanation of the figures on a notification sent to them after they have been overpaid—a point alluded to by my hon.
They were honest people, as are most of my constituents who bring such cases to me; they had queried something that they had found strange straight away and they had expected the matter to be resolved, and I had also raised the matter on their behalf.

The Scottish Parliament is composed of 129 MPs, 73 of whom are elected on a constituency basis using the first-past-the-post system and 56 of whom are elected as regional additional members, using a system of proportional representation.
In the first (constituency, first past the post) ballot, the SNP increased its share of the vote in sixty five constituencies, drastically reducing Labour majorities and significantly increasing support in what used to be regarded as the party's weakest areas.
The UK General Election, held in June 2001, saw Labour returned to power at Westminster with a majority of 165 after a lacklustre election campaign fought under the discredited first-past-the-post system, in which the result was widely perceived as a foregone conclusion.

In 1983, she was replaced as SNP candidate by Hamish Watt, who as MP for Banffshire from February 1974-1979, had represented a third of the new Moray electorate.

David Butler was blaming Enoch Powell for the result - he'd withdrawn from the race telling everyone to vote Labour, and around his constituency in the West Midlands, 11 seats had gone to Labour with much larger swings than average, thus creating the deadlock.
Robin thought the UK might be "right on the edge of a ghastly disaster", while David said that the entire country had, given the chance to vote, all opted for "don't know".
