  Song of the South Campaigns
Song of the South was released a third time in 1972 for the glory of Walt Disney's 50th anniversary.
Touting a new look which was in stark contrast to the film's previous release in 1956, it was almost as if the movie's identity had started anew, and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" was blazoned across the top, acting as the main trigger to people who were still humming the 1948 Academy Award-winning song.
Disney could rely largely on the parents and grandparents of a new generation to be their exploitation, and it worked wonderfully: I was one of those fortunate children who was able to see this movie.

But he made up for that by being more appealing to the jazz audience, which responded to his obvious affection for the style and his talent for jazz singing (he was bested only by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald in his ability to scat).
The success of the song led to a contact with bandleader Ben Pollack who, in 1942, was putting together a band to be fronted by comedian Chico Marx of the Marx Brothers at a time when many musicians were being drafted into the military to fight in World War II.
Tormé had appeared in another film, A Man Called Adam, in the summer of 1966, again playing himself, and cut the song "All That Jazz" (not to be confused with the song of the same title from the 1975 musical {+Chicago}) for the soundtrack LP released on Reprise Records.

The process yielded the number one hit "Witch Doctor" in early 1958, and the phenomenon mushroomed later that year when his Christmas gimmick single The Chipmunk Song spent four weeks at the top of the charts.
Five more Chipmunks singles charted in the early '60s, and five LPs also did well, including a Beatles cover album in 1964.
The series became more popular than in the '60s, and albums of the Chipmunks singing country, Christmas, rock, and Hollywood favorites were big sellers, though they didn't enjoy chart success.

Traditional Song: Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage
Folksong composers are often said to "make" a song rather than write one, and a song's lyrics or music may never be recorded on paper or by other means when a songmaker composes.
It is not uncommon for folksong makers to claim authorship of a particular song when in fact they have altered it, thereby creating a version of the song.
The song traditions of Newfoundland and Labrador have continued to be of academic and public interest.

Raffique Shah - Sparrow through the eyes of Indo-Trinidadians
After his runaway victory in 1956, Sparrow refused to participate in any more competitions staged by the authorities until the prizes offered to participants in the Calypso King competition were increased.
Out of that experience in which the ONR captured some 80,000-plus votes (but not a damn seat!), came some more vintage Sparrow: "We Like It So" was typical Sparrow: he was able to laugh at himself, the "picong" he was subjected to by PNMites as he campaigned for Karl.
The group argued that the song portrayed Indian women as being vulgar, and there were calls for him to stop singing it, just as Shorty's "Indrani" invited condemnation, mainly from Hindus.
