Morgan County, CO was formed in 1889 from part of Weld County.
Morgan County is primarily a rural entity located on the high plains of northeastern Colorado, with Weld and Logan Counties to the north, Washington County to the east, Adams County to the south and Weld County to the west.
Morgan County is 36th among Colorado counties measured in square-miles, but is abundantly rich agriculturally with many irrigated and dry land farms as well as beef, sheep and dairy ranches.

Morgan County, in central Georgia, was created from Baldwin County by an act of the state legislature in 1807.
By 1890 the county's population was up to 16,041, but the cotton boll weevil crisis of the 1910s and 1920s, and the depression of the 1930s, led to a drastic decrease.

The county's courthouse was among some 29 buildings destroyed by fire during the Civil War, along with the offices of the circuit and county clerks, and many irreplaceable county records.
The fertile valleys were good pasture land: Morgan County soon became called "the Bluegrass county of the mountains." Cattle, burley tobacco, and lumber mills would become the area's main industries.
When Morgan County's Wells Mill settlement was to be officially established as the county seat, Pike County was in the process of creating its own county seat, rumored to be called "Liberty." To honor their eastern neighbor, Morgan County officials chose to rename Wells Mill to "West Liberty."
