In 2004 MSCI acquired Barra, Inc. The combined entity is known as MSCI Barra, and is headquartered in New York City, with operations in Geneva, London, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Sydney, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Princeton, New Jersey and San Francisco.
Morgan Stanley is the majority shareholder of MSCI Barra, and The Capital Group Companies is the minority shareholder.
