There is probably cheaper accomodation in Osaka, but this is pretty much as close to the centre as you can get, being right on Dotomburi and only 100 metres from Midosuji.
The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke english to a high level, despite continually protesting their lack of ability to do so.

There might also be a dojo under Endo sensei in Osaka but now I'm almost guessing (but check it out because I might be remembering correctly).
There is the tenshin dojo in Osaka, I just recently went to it, and found it a great place to do Aikido..
I think I put it in the last thread, but Kobe is even closer to Osaka than Kyoto, it just depends on where in Osaka you are.
