Moroni is frequently identified with the Church because portrayals of him blowing a trumpet, handling the gold plates, or instructing Joseph Smith are commonly displayed—for instance on LDS temple spires, on covers of several printings of the Book of Mormon, and in paintings.
A depiction of Moroni with a trumpet is the official emblem on grave markers of American Mormon servicemen.
Moroni is commonly portrayed with a trumpet because of an interpretation of a prophecy of John the Revelator wherein he saw an angel heralding the return of the everlasting gospel to the earth in the last days:

Moroni also comments on particulars, but by virtue of being the one assigned to bury the whole book, he interprets the significance of the entire work in a global and final manner.
The text consists largely of a sermon (Moroni 7) and letters directed to persons in the frame of the Nephite narrative, and with the exception of Moroni 9, the narrative is mostly doctrinal in nature even though it is not a commentary from the narrator.
Moroni's second purpose, apparent in the seemingly random doctrinal expositions and arguments of all three endings, is to defend the Book of Mormon itself.

As a young man, Moroni was employed in Trent during the opening sessions of the Church Council; he painted the nephews of Cardinal Cristoforo Madruzzo, whose own portrait was painted by Titian and who played a prominent role as a mediator between the papacy and the Holy Roman Empire.
By the early 1550s, Moroni was primarily active in the region of Bergamo, painting portraits of the local aristocracy and professional classes, along with sacred commissions and devotional paintings such as Portrait of a Man before the Virgin and Child (c.
Moroni painted this portrait some years earlier, about 1552—53, employing the seated full-length format—an uncommon tribute for a woman, and particularly for a nonroyal subject, until it was taken up by Rubens and Van Dyck in the 17th century.

Titian, under whom also Moroni, while still very young, is said to have studied (but this appears hardly probable), had at any rate a high opinion of his powers: he said that Moroni made his portraits " living " or " actual " (veri).
His portraits do not indeed attain to a majestic monumental character; but they are full of straightforward life and individuality, with genuine unforced choice of attitude, and excellent texture and arrangement of draperies.
Besides his portraits, Moroni painted, from youth to his latest days, the ordinary round of sacred compositions; but in these he falls below his master II Moretto.

A Chronological Setting for the Epistles of Mormon to Moroni - FARMS JBMS
Assuming that Mormon was involved in battles at this time (Moroni 8:27), the text leaves little doubt that after 350, which was the beginning of the time when Moroni would have been old enough to have a church calling (see clue 3), most all of the battles fought were near the boundaries of Nephite territory.
Since Moroni had to be old enough to labor in the ministry during this time, textual clue 3 would have a possible time frame from shortly before 350 until some time after 380 when Mormon and Moroni were together again (see chart on page 113).
Although less probable, if Moroni was born during the next period of peace (350-60) then the minimum figure would be 350 + 1 + 15 = 366 for the earliest call to the ministry, and 360 + 1 + 30 = 391 for the latest call to the ministry.
