Morphing is a special effect used in e.g.
It involves creating a seamless transition from one still image to another, which is achieved by morphing programs which analyze the still images and create the appropriate new animation framess, thus creating the illusion of a transformation.
The first mainstream use of morphing was in 1985, when former 10cc members Kevin Godley and Lol Creme (performing as Godley & Creme) used it as the theme for the video to their song Cry.

Morphing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Morphing is a special effect in motion pictures and animations that changes (or morphs) one image into another through a seamless transition.
This style of morphing was perhaps most famously employed in the video former 10cc members Kevin Godley and Lol Creme (performing as Godley and Creme) produced in 1985 for their song Cry.
Morphing has also appeared as a transition technique between one scene and another in television shows, even if the contents of the two images are entirely unrelated.

 Image Morphing
Image metamorphosis, or morphing for short, is commonly referred to as the animated transformation of one digital image to the other.
As the morphing proceeds, the first image (source) is gradually distorted and is faded out, while the second image (target) starts out and is faded in.
Before the development of morphing, image transitions were generally achieved through the use of cross-dissolves, e.g., linear interpolation to fade from one image to another.

Morphing is a form of animation where two different images are blended to create a third.
To make morphing realistic, certain areas of the image, such as the eyes, must be overlapped on the first and last images and locked in place.
Here Blackbelt's Easy Morph program was used to morph a photograph of a woman into a photograph of a frog.

Morphing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because of the limitations of this technique the actors or objects would have to stay virtually motionless in front of a background that did not change or move in the frame between the before and after shots.
For example, one would morph one face into another by marking key points on the first face, such as the countour of the nose or location of an eye, and mark where these same points existed on the second face.
Other early morphing systems included ImageMaster, Morph Plus and CineMorph, all of which premiered for the Commodore Amiga in 1992.

 Morphing In After Effects
Morphing is a distinctive effect that is best known from the movie "Terminator 2" as well as the Michael Jackson music video "Black and White".
Morphing can be used as a visual effect - for example an actor may morph into an alien - or as an invisible technique - for example to change the perspective of a miniature so it can be composited more accurately with live action.
The morphing effects in Terminator 2 were sophisticated 3D models which altered their geometry in 3D space, and there is no way to achieve that level of sophistication in After Effects.

The term morphing meaning "to morph" is derived from the word metamorphosis.
This is what morphing software does to pictures, changes one picture object to another, by creating a sequence of smooth transitional link pictures between the starting and ending pictures.
For instance, if you are choosing to morph a two people, lets say a woman to a man, it is best to use two pictures that have the same general size and outline.

 View Morphing (by Steve Seitz)
However, differences in object pose or viewpoint often cause unnatural distortions in image morphs that are difficult to correct manually.
The technique, called {\em view morphing}, works by prewarping two images prior to computing a morph and then postwarping the interpolated images.
View morphing between two images of an object taken from two different viewpoints produces the illusion of physically moving a virtual camera.

 Voice Morphing
Voice Morphing which is also referred to as voice transformation and voice conversion is a technique to modify a source speaker's speech utterance to sound as if it was spoken by a target speaker.
In cases where the speaker identity plays a key role, such as dubbing movies and TV-shows, the availability of high quality voice morphing technology will be very valuable allowing the appropriate voice to be generated (maybe in different languages) without the original actors being present.
Current work is focussed on extending the techniques to allow the conversion of an unknown speaker's voice to sound like that of a known target speaker.

In order to convince yourself that we used 3D morphing for the movie, rather than 2D morphing, look for sequences involving movement of the piece that goes through morphing, or moevment of the camera (the point from which the scene is seen) while viewing such a piece.

Smart Mobs: Morphing Faces: Hidden Persuaders
The study consisted of three groups of respondents: one had their own photograph morphed into a picture of Bush, the second had their photograph morphed into a picture of Kerry, and the third was given un-morphed photographs of the two candidates.
The photographs of the respondents were acquired long before the study began; consequently none of the 200 respondents realized their own photographs had been morphed with the candidates.
As a further control, the 'self' morphed photos for one respondent was always used as an 'other' photo for another respondent, ensuring that attractiveness, etc. of the photographs was controlled completely across conditions 1 or 2.

 Sqirlz Morph - multi-morphing freeware
Sqirlz Morph allows you to mark features on several images, and the program mixes the images so that each feature on one image moves smoothly to the corresponding feature on the other images - a technique widely used in the film industry.
Morph animations can be saved as Macromedia Flash (SWF) files, AVI video clips, and bitmap and JPEG files.
Sqirlz Morph is an offshoot of the Sqirlz program, and complements Sqirlz and Sqirlz Lite by providing a more 'traditional' approach to warping/morphing based on the use of control points to mark key image features.

 3d Morphing - 6.837 Final Project Proposal
Morphing is an interpolation technique used to create from two objects a series of intermediate objects that change continuously to make a smooth transition from the source to the target.
Morphing has been done in two dimensions by varying the values of the pixels of one image to make a different image, or in three dimensions by varying the values of three-dimensional pixels.
A better way to accomplish two-dimensional morphing is to identify line segments on the source image with line segments on the target image so that pixel values will actually move across the image so that features will be preserved better.

lf139, Graphics: XMRM : Morphing with Linux
XMRM (Multi Resolution Morphing for X) is a morphing program that allows one to create an mpeg video based on two images, where one image transforms progressively (according to many parameters) into the other.
It's possible to modify the progress of the morph as follows: The X-axis represents the time or the position of the image in the animation: on the left is the source image; on the right is the destination image.
It is possible to have several tracings per image: for example, in the official documentation, there is an example of morphing a bear and a leopard where they have the contour of the head, plus the outline of each eye, for a total of three tracings per photo.

Morphing software should be simple for beginners and experienced computer users alike—features and instructions should be easy to find and use—this is one of the most important features to look for in morphing software.
This rating shows if the morphing software has convenient support, if the documentation is useful and descriptive, whether there are tutorials to explain difficult concepts and the degree of knowledge the product’s technical support can provide.

 3D morphing
Morphing is a name coined over a decade ago, for animation sequences which display gradual transformation.
There are a few difficulties that have to be overcome when trying to construct 3D morphing sequences with polyhedral bodies (creating sequences from bodies represented as voxels is easier, but not practical- they are harder to come by in the first place, and harder to display and manipulate once generated).
Another common problem, which we address in the Underground system, is the specification of fitting information- how to fit certain parts in one body, to change into certain parts in the other body.
