The Talk.Origins Archive Post of the Month: July 2000
The evidence that historical evolution has occurred - that organisms have changed radically over the course of hundreds of millions of years since the first life on earth - comes from a combination of examination of the fossil record and studies of the comparative morphology and genetics and the geographical distribution of modern organisms.
The colonies that form after about 10-20 generations are composed of clusters of daughter cells that remain within the mother cell's envelope, so they will be as genetically identical to each other as the cells in, say, a human body.
This is easily explained as the result of rare mutations but very difficult to explain as the persistence of genetic variants from the original wild population, given the large number of generations involved and the extreme rarity of the observation of clustering.

 Morphological Paradoxes
Morphological rules, or at least inflectional rules, may differ in kind from either syntactic or phonological rules, by being in some sense paradigmatic rules.

Morphological Freedom – Why We not just Want it, but Need it
Morphological freedom doesn’t threaten diversity, as has been suggested repeatedly by critics of genetic modification or other forms of physical modification, but in my opinion would have quite the opposite effect.
Just as there are positive arguments for morphological freedom, implying why it would be beneficial to regard as a basic human right, there are also negative arguments showing why not accepting morphological freedom as a basic right would have negative effects.
Taking the step to full morphological freedom creates a far simpler ethical guideline, which both protects those who do not wish to change, those who are differently bodied and those wanting to change their bodies.

Morphology   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
Morphological operators often take a binary image and a structuring element as input and combine them using a set operator (intersection, union, inclusion, complement).
A morphological operator is therefore defined by its structuring element and the applied set operator.
The most general operator is the hit and miss, in fact, all the other morphological operators can be deduced from it.

EACL 2003 Workshop on Morphological Processing of Slavic Languages
The problems of morphological analysis of Slavic languages in natural language processing are more often that not approached independently for different languages in spite of their structural similarities.
The topic of the workshop is the morphological computational analysis and annotation of Slavic languages, encountered on both the inflective and the derivational levels.
Other areas of interest are the connection of morphological analysis for Slavic languages to word-level syntactic tagging, collocation and term extraction, integration into semantic networks, and the transfer of morphological information between aligned corpora.

My research to date has concentrated on how shoots evolve within the context of whole plant growth and how leaf, branch and main axis evolution are influenced by a plant's evolutionary history and ecological context.
For spatially restricted, continuously developing organisms such as plants, temporal changes in environment are part and parcel of the ecological history, and thus evolutionary selective history, of that organism.
I am interested in how temporal and morphological developmental patterns evolve in concert to result in adaptive phenotypes.
