	BMC ADO16 - Biocrawler
		The Mark II versions of the Austin and Morris models were announced, with the larger engine making it into these two makes' ranges in October 1967 (as the Austin 1300 and Morris 1300).
		The Riley 1300 Mk II was cancelled in July 1969, and was the last Riley.
		ADO16 also formed the basis of the Australian Morris 1500 and Morris 1500 Nomad station wagon, the Italian Innocenti Morris IM3 and Austin I4 and I5, the more powerful South African Austin, Morris and Wolseley 11/55 and Austin Apache and the Spanish Austin Victoria and 998 cm³ Austin de Luxe of 1974–7.

		Following on from the success of the 1100 range BMC launched the additional 1300 models in 1967 at the same time as it announced the 1100 MKII (therefore all Morris 1300's were built to MKII 1100 spec).

	Morris
		Morris himself started out manufacturing motorcycles, but his attention soon turned to automobiles, and he was determined to make his company a success.
		The Austin overhead-valve engines were favoured over the older design Morris side valve units, the Minor now equipped with a 49ci 803cc engine taken from the Austin A30, the 1954 Cowley received the 73ci 1.2 litre B Series, and the Oxford received the 1.5 litre version.
		The cheaper and more economical version was to become immensely popular, the Morris Minor MM, but the Oxford made it's debut at the same time and has, for those that are not Morris fans, become somewhat forgotten.

	The Morris 1500
		In 1964, a locally built version of Morris 1100 was launched in Australia and was sold alongside the Mini and Austin A40.
		The Nomad was slightly taller than the 1500 and was about 60 pounds heavier, with most of the extra weight being accounted for in the addition of the rear tailgate door, which was a one piece affair that was held open using compressed gas operated struts.
		The 1500 and Nomad were discontinued in 1973, and were replaced by the Morris Marina.

	Morris 1100 and 1300
		Front disc brakes were standard, as was the interconnected fluid suspension ("Hydrolastic"), and with a transverse mounted front wheel drive and subframe construction the 1100 was not only spacious and comfortable, but was a great drivers car for the money.
		Badge re-engineering was popular for British cars of the time, and the Morris 1100 was to find a home with other manufacturers such as Austin, Riley, Wolseley, MG and even Vanden Plas.
		Due to the large number manufactured, the car is at the lower end of collectability, however models such as the GT and others released by makers such as Vandan Plas that have leather trim and the mandatory picnic tables are becoming much sought after and make a good investment.

		Already famous for his designs of the Morris Minor and Mini, BMC automotive design genius Sir Alec Issigonis, with assistance from PininFarina in Italy, based the 1100 on his previous design for the Mini ("ADO-15").
		From basic Austin and Morris models to the luxurious Vanden Plas Princess and the sporty MG's, and even wagon versions, there was a model to suite nearly everyone.
		Due to their success, popularity and high demand, the cars were built in several other countries, including Italy(producing the Morris Innocenti IM3), South Africa(producing the Austin Apache), Spain(producing the Authi Victoria), and Australia (producing the Morris 1100 Mk1, Morris 1500 and Nomad wagon versions).

	The Many Faces of the Morris Minor, continued....
		It was given a larger 948cc engine which increased power output by 20%, a new gearbox with better ratios, and a remote-control gearshift which was an improvement over the old 'fairy-wand' with which the driver had to shuffle the gears.
		LCVs were launched in May 1953, shortly after the merger of Morris and Austin to form the British Motor Corporation, and were produced both as the Series II and the 1000.
		The irony was that it was his own Morris 1100/1300 range that helped put up a challenge to the 22 year old Minor.

		This engine is in need of reconditioning, it has a Austin Morris 1300 box on it, which I was told is good and has a "racing clutch" whatever that is.
		The gearbox on this engine has a differenmt front drive arrangement to that of the usual Mini, it has cylidrical splines, this I assume identifies the difference between the 1300 box and the Mini, I don't have the drive shafts, they were not with the car.
		When I got the car I asked for the axles, the guy no longer had them, the negine had been in the car, and I can only assume they were 1300 axles, and that the spline at the wheel end is the same, same with the length.

		Crayford carried out the conversion on either the Morris 1100 or1300 and the MG 1300.
		Pictured above is the MG 1300 and the Morris 1300.
		The only problem with carrying out such a conversion was that you lost some of the boot due to the hood well, and elbow room on the back seat was also reduced slightly.
