Mortal Kombat II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mortal Kombat II (also referred to as MKII) is an arcade game and the second title in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series.
Mortal Kombat II also strays from the severe oriental theme of its predeccessor, though it does retain the original motif somewhat.
Mortal Kombat II was re-released (although far from arcade-perfect) in 2004 as a part of Midway Arcade Treasures 2.

Mortal Kombat (series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mortal Kombat (commonly abbreviated MK) is a popular series of fighting games created by Midway, which in turn spawned a number of related media.
Mortal Kombat 4 brought the series into 3D, replacing the digitized fighters of the previous games with polygon models, while Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was the first in the series to skip arcades altogether and go directly to consoles, a symptom of U.S. arcade market's dramatic decline.
The second-to-last installment in the series, Mortal Kombat: Deception, was released for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 platforms in October 2004 (with a Nintendo GameCube version released in February 2005 with two exclusive characters: Shao Kahn and Goro).

Mortal Kombat II is an arcade game and the eleventh title in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series.
Storywise, it is supposedly preceded by Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, but (in recent times), the canon of that game has come into question, so (for many), Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is not canon to the story of Mortal Kombat II, and is thought of as being a loose canon.

Mortal Kombat had taken actors' (and on occasion, the staff themselves') videotaping against a blue screen and utilized them as character sprites for the fighters in-game.
In Mortal Kombat 1 and it's sequal, this technology also led to kombat in the courts as models and actors that were portrayed in the game attempted to recover damages that home console use of their likenesses was not spelled out in their initial contracts.
Mortal Kombat introduced fatalities, a special finishing move that could be performed once the opponent has been defeated in the last round.

Sega Xtreme - Mortal Kombat 2
Both the Snes and Genesis version of MK II came out on the same day and flew of the shelves as if they were handing out a free copy, not to anyone's surprise though really, because by now Mortal Kombat had already become a household name in gaming land.
For MK II this meant no mess-ups were viable and that the Genesis needed to be juiced for what it was worth, after all its reputation was at stake here.
As far as Mortal Kombat II on Genesis is concerned, it's a near perfect translation of the arcade version (in 16-bit terms), not all samples are there and some colors may be missing, but its awesome graphics and game play cannot be denied.

MORTAL KOMBAT gained some notoriety because of its unusually violent "fatalities" or "finishing moves." These are performed when an opponent is defeated by the use of normal fighting moves such as standard kicks and punches.
The control was less of a problem on the original Mortal Kombat because the characters all had fewer possible moves and combinations of moves.
