I understand that the developers of Mortal Kombat: Deception tried to make the game somewhat different from Deadly Alliance so that people would be more inclined to pick it up, but instead we end up with a great game that seems to be missing something, all of the great characters that we love to use.

In the mid-90’s, Mortal Kombat was the king of the videogame bikesheds.
Kombat Chess is a simplified version of the classic board game that replaces traditional pieces with hand-picked teams of Kombatants.
Deception is, after all, primarily a beat ‘em-up, but it's merely adequate in this respect, providing the anticipated results but doing itself no favours by copying better beat ‘em-ups and failing to match their standards.

Mortal Kombat, the super franchise from way back in the day looked to be on a steady downfall at one point but was quickly redeemed with the release of the successful and acclaimed Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance in 2002.
Mortal Kombat's story is deeper than it appears and there is always a lot more going on than meets the eye.
The arcade mode is the same as it has always been in Mortal Kombat; you select a fighter and progress up a ladder of challengers, finally confronting the main boss and you're rewarded with a brief ending sequence once defeated.

Deception's solo mode is very similar to it's predecessor, Dark Alliance, although there is a new 'breaker' move that allows you to stop combos in their tracks.
The main difference between Mortal Kombat Deception and other beat-um-ups is the violence, toned down slightly for the last game it is back with a vengeance with each character having two fatalities and a hari-kari move as well as level specific fatalities.
Mortal kombat has come a long way since the origional and being an MK fan i got this game on release (although slightly annoyed due to it now costing £12 when i payed £30) even if i wasnt an MK fan this would still get 5 stars.

Mortal Kombat 3 sacrificed the serious (but not too) tone and solid character selection with a lame “so sick it’s funny” approach with a bunch of characters that had no real connection with gamers.
Mortal Kombat 4 was the victim of the big rush to get all the big franchises in 3D.
For those that don’t know, Mortal Kombat’s explanation of the mystical aspects of the story comes from “realms” which are considered to be different planes of existence or dimensions.

I decided to wait on commenting on the latest game in the long-running "Mortal Kombat" franchise, titled "Mortal Kombat: Deception," because I first wanted to see how things would pan out after it was beaten.
It is here in "Konquest" that you pretty much learn about the whole "Mortal Kombat" universe and you train, learn special moves, and earn "kombat koins" to open up unlockables in the "krypt" (everything that's usually spelled with a "c" is spelled with a "k" in the "Mortal Kombat" universe).

If you're anything like me, you were pleasently surprised with the latest installment in the Mortal Kombat franchise, Deadly Alliance(further referred to as MK:DA) when it released back in November of 2002.
Maybe it was the lack of multiple character fatalities, stage finishing moves, and Scorpion's teleportation punch, but there was something there that certaintly didn't scream Mortal Kombat to me. Even so, I was just glad to have another game with the Mortal Kombat name attached to it that was even remotely good.
