Maestro Morteza Neydavood, the last in the long line of the grand masters to convey the old traditional music of Iran to the new generation, died in California, recently.
Thus, maestro Morteza Neydavood, one of the most distinguished virtuosos of the past sixty years, a kind and generous teacher, an able composer, and above all an honest and exemplary human being died in California, thousands of miles away from home, at the age of ninety.
He was a student of and later an assistant to Darvish Khan (one of the masters of the Tar and its radeef in late nineteenth and early twentieth century) but who developed a style distinct from that of his master, a style that attracted many later musicians to its fold.

 Film Music In Iranian Cinema
One was Morteza Hannaneh known for his "absolute music." He has, of course, composed some pieces for films, too, However, the only real original film music to be made in that era was that of Downtown (Farrokh Ghaffari, 1958).
There were several musicians to compose for films including Varoojan, Farhat, Ahmad Pejman, Loris Cheknavarian, Shaida Gharachedaghi, Hannaneh and Esfandiar Monfaredzadeh.
Hannaneh: Hezardastan (1978-87) a TV series by Hatami and The Man Who Turned Into a Mouse (1985) by Ahmad Bakhshi.

 Iran's National Orchestra and its background in Iran

 National Orchestra to perform at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall tomorrow
The concert will feature pieces composed by Farhad Fakhroddni, Ali Tajvidi, Morteza Hannaneh, Amir Jahed, Reza Yavari, Amir Minusepehr, and Mazaiar Heidari.
Alireza Qorbani will be the lead singer and Shurangiz Zahiroddini, Hurvash Khalili, and Mohammad Reza Safi will be the background singers.
“Homayun” by Farhad Fakhroddni, “Hezar Dastan” by Morteza Hannaneh, “Grass” by Amir Gahed, and “I Went” by Ali Tajvidi are to be performed in the first part of the concert.

In addition, I have commissioned composers to write music, so that despite their arduous living conditions (no chance of getting their works performed, financial problems, etc.) they will not abandon their creative work.
Up to now I have performed and recorded works by Samin BAGHTCHEBAN, Hossein NÂSSEHI, Heshmat SANDJARI, Hossein DEHLAVI, Alireza MASHAYEKHI, Morteza HANNANEH, Mohammad-Taghi MASSOUDIEH, Mostafa-Kamal POURTORAB, Parviz MAHMOUD, Hossein YOUSEFZAMANI and others.
I took it upon myself to do this work without any support from cultural institutes and I trust that I have been able to be of some service to Persian symphonic music.
