Moshing started, it's thought, at punk gigs during the 18th century, where a primative form of body slamming became popular at gigs and has evolved to the artistic stature that it is today.
Moshing basically is an expression of music by the crowd at a concert/gig.
Now it's difficult to explain the essence of the moshpit without completely underplaying it.
"Mosh" is a song and video clip by the controversial rapper Eminem and Guerrilla News Network, released on October 26, 2004, just prior to the 2004 presidential election.
Mosh was produced, directed and edited by Ian Inaba, of GNN TV.
'Mosh' is sometimes used as the entrance music for UFC Fighter Tito Ortiz.
To look upon the moshpit for the first time is an affront to the senses for the moshpit is unlike anything else in nature.
The reason that moshing has become the pseudonym for slamdancing is that Metallica was the only good band to survive the transitional period which replaced authentic forms of punk, thrash, and speedmetal with alternative buzzkill music.
With holes in their pockets and dicks in hand, they set upon the moshpit foaming at the mouth with one goal in mind: coping a quick feel so that they may be satisfied until the next show.

Mosh fittingly idealizes him as a cartoon character but in a comix (vaguely commie) U.S.A where he rouses school-kid rabble into a mob.
Although Mosh was directed by Ian Inaba of the Guerrilla News Network website, it shares the same impetus as MTV's disingenuous Choose or Lose campaign—merely a variation on consumerism, another directive aimed at a captive market.
Mosh depicts Eminem's fl rap protégé Lloyd Banks being racially profiled by a white cartoon cop, followed by a tv broadcast of the Ku Klux Klan in their white hoods, then a rally of fans wearing fl hoodies.
The video (Mosh) proceeds to show several individuals dramatically affected by Bush’s policies: an urban fl man, a target of racial profiling; a working mother about to be evicted from her apartment and a U.S. soldier ordered to Iraq.
Their destination is revealed in the final scenes, which MTV did not show last night: the army of angry moshers storms the steps of a courthouse, not to riot, as it first looks, but to orderly exercise their right — and power — to vote.
And for all of the violent, dark images in the Mosh video, suggesting that rebellion is on the way, we have the assembled army walking into a place where they're going to do what they have to do.
Those who are accustomed to Eminem's gay-bashing, gun-toting antics will hardly believe their eyes, as they watch his new video in which the top-selling rapper and his posse file into the voting booths, the words "Vote Tuesday, November 2" fading into the screen.
Mosh could well be one of the most overtly political pop music videos ever produced, and is easily the most direct anti-Bush cultural statement since Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11.
Critics--especially from the right--will dismiss Mosh as a shrewd attempt to boost record sales by capitalizing on the tide of anti-Bush populism.
In a moshpit, the participants ram into each other and use their knees, elbows and shoulders to shove and strike.
Although moshing is a very aggressive activity, it is considered paramount in all moshpits to look after one another.
Most people enjoy moshing because of its ability to relieve anger or tension in a safe and healthy way, as well as its ability to allow oneself to obtain a feeling of comradery, which encompasses all those who add whatever they can to the pit.
From there, "Mosh" moves to Eminem's apartment, where the walls are covered with articles critical of the Bush administration and its policies.
Clips of Em rapping the track are then interspersed with scenes of domestic problems facing the country, such as racial profiling (an animated Lloyd Banks is harassed by police) and poverty (an inner-city family receives an eviction notice as their TV set shows Bush promising tax cuts for the wealthy).
"Mosh" portrays Eminem as a powerful rebellious figure who just by using his voice and music has the ability to mobilize people who are fed up with the president.
Regardless of how you felt about Mosh, the video sparked emotions that had been suppressed for four years.
Like Fahrenheit 9/11, Mosh seemed to be one of the lone pieces of mainstream media to be saying (at least some of) them.
And in the week leading up to the election, those inside the media who felt burned by the administration took off the restraints and wielded their power to promote America’s most popular (and despised) artist’s statement against the Bush Administration.
The Republicans will probably dismiss Mosh as another attempt by misguided Hollywood / music stars to influence the upcoming election, but at their own peril.
While they dont get what is so great about Eminem he has unmatched popularity and credibility among the young generation of voters (comprising 36% of the electorate), a generation that is so difficult to get a political message across to.
For the record numbers of those young people who have registered (including me) Mosh will be fresh in our memories when the judgement day of the current administration finally arrives.

The words of Mosh are much more than a huge wake up call in front of blind and stubborn American citizens who keep supporting Bush despite his hypocrisy.
