Dschinghis Khan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The name of the band is the German spelling of "Genghis Khan" (with an added "h"), and was chosen to fit the song of the same name written and produced by Ralph Siegel with lyrics by Bernd Meinunger.
They took fourth place in the Eurovision Song Contest 1979, and their song was a big national and European hit.
Even though the band was most successful in Germany and all the songs were in German, the producer Ralph Siegel also made an English version of every released song (including Moskau).

Nearly all the songs are in German, sung in a powerful bass voice that is very original, contrasting favourably to the anaemic British-American style.
Usually songs develop in a sort of talking style, then a rousing chorus follows, accompanied by metal rhythms that can be quite melodic.
This is in contrast to the words of the song itself, which begin with 'Moscow is a prostitute'.

 Dschinghis Khan
Dschinghis Khan had discovered that their songs were quite different from the usual limited circle of constant music themes: love homesickness, need for luck.
Being different, the songs of Dschinghis Khan were not so uninteresing, having the theme of processing of historical events.
The song did not make it into the finals but was a huge hit (primarily because of its visual presentation) and became a musical emblem of Dschinghis Khan.

Songs like Mein Teil and Amerika are deeply rooted in Rammstein tradition (heavy crunching riffs, sweeping keyboards) however the real gems on the album are some of the more emotional and slightly off kilter songs, like Los and Ohne Dich.
This song sung by Till is great because it uses some russian in it sung by some russian woman.
Every song on this album is fresh and original, bringing a new term to metal music.

Regarding reise, in English, depending on the context, a journey is often used as a metaphor for an ongoing struggle (journeying/marching/soldiering on in the face of adversity etc).

The real plus of this song is based just on its political content, which uses the over-abused idea of anti-Americanism, that is becoming a "political correct" trend all over the world outside the US.
It's not as good as their old stuff and I was pretty disapointed but there are some cool songs on it.
I know this song could be considered as a "trademark Rammstein song", but I find it boring after two or three listens.

They're two somewhat sad songs which in a way mimic the regret I feel for the way things ended between the two of us (unfortunately, we're less than friends at this point), but also just remind me of the whole concept of two separate unique things becoming even an even better thing when paired together.

The song partially reveals the story behind the flight recorder-style cover art, telling the story of a man and a child on board a plane, which proceeds to hit bad weather and lose cabin pressure, the story seemingly left open-ended in a very pessimistic fashion.
It's notable as the first time the band have used English vocals in a song written by themselves (though quite a bit of the song is still in German), but they use this to their advantage - it's easily the silliest thing they've done since they ripped apart DM's 'Stripped'.
The choir from the first two songs makes a welcome return, but the champions of this track are Till (putting in a strong and committed vocal performance, even by his standards), and drummer Christian Schneider, who beats out one of his most intricate patterns to date, the pair's contributions really gelling come the chorus.

I wouldn't call Sehnsucht a mainstream album; the majority of songs on this album are related to sex and death, and they put the least videos out (2) from the CD (Engel and Du Hast, both of which did not fall under the category of sex or death).
Moskau is a nice song, I wish they'd chosen to do a video of that.
Rammstein had a thousand different ideas for the Sonne video, one of which was planes flying overhead while they dropped bombs, but they figured the media would be all over their asses if they did that, so they went with Snow White instead.

However I don't think Los is the worst song they have done, I think Seemann takes that "prize".
BTW I prefer "Amour" to "Ohne Dich" (talking about ballads), and I think the worst song by Rammstein is "Herzeleid" by far (Los is bad too, the worst of this album "Reise, Reise").
I think this sly and blusey style has always been with rammstien, but never has it been so domonant on an album: to the point where they throw down all their rammstein-heavy for a songs like los, stein um stein, Ohne dich, and amour (which I enjoyed thouroughly).

The drama inherent to the band’s music lends itself well to a trans-national gothic imagination that incorporates elements of mythology, the horrors of war, the inhumanity of industrialization, and straight ahead, ballsy hard rock.
Even to American audiences, this all comes across pretty clearly, despite the fact that songs are sung primarily in German.
A band that was once content to grind out a relentless mix of industrial tempos and death metal aggression now prefers to explore the prog rock tendencies that have always been there.

This kind simplisticness is found througthout many Rammstein songs which is why the appeal to many people liek these songs because once you find out what part of the song means the rest is pretty simple as it usually follows along the same lines.
