The original Mosrite of California company all but disappeared for many years although, for a while, a small number of instruments were still being produced by Semie (largely unbeknownst to the general public) and a couple of Japanese companies began selling copies (primarily unauthorized).

Mosrite was an American guitar manufacturing company, based in Bakersfield, California, from the late 1950s to the mid 1990s Founded by Semie Moseley, Mosrite guitars were played by many rock and roll and country artists such as Kurt Cobain, Joe Maphis, Larry Collins, Buck Trent, The Ventures and The Ramones.
Mosrite guitars were known for innovative design, beautiful engineering, very thin, low-fretted and narrow necks, and extremely hot (high output) pickups.
Mosrite also produced an unusual double-necked guitar, which was the type favored by Collins and Maphis; this design was also used by Nick Nastos, lead guitar player for Bill Haley and His Comets, during 1968.

Mosrites stand at the head of the line among its guitar relatives: Standel, Hallmark, Gruggett, Stradette, and others nurtured by the California electric guitar pioneers.
The Mosrite company was started in 1952 by Semie Moseley with the financial help of a friend, Rev. Ray Boatwright, who bought Semie his first band saw in the early '50s.
The first Mosrite Ventures model prototypes were built here, as were several double-necks and more standard "Tele"-shaped single-necks, still with mainly hand-made parts as in the beginning Semie did everything himself.

Apparently, during this time, he was working for Rickenbacker, and when he mentioned his new project, he was promptly fired for building one of his own guitars in their factory.

Mosrite's are made in Japan, there are two factories, both of which think they are the official owner of the Mosrite and Ventures name.
Semie Moselie's family own the name "Mosrite" and "Mosrite of California" the Ventures themselves don't own the name "Ventures" in reference to a guitar model and they get their guitars custom made by someone else now...
So actually buying a Mosrite from Ed Roman might be spending a lot on a conterfeit because if it looks like a Mosrite down to the detail and he puts the name on it braging about how he owns the name even tho he doesn't, those are just conterfeits.
