Chemical analysis of water from springs at Mosteiros (~9 km N) and wells in Sao Filipe (~15 km WSW) showed no contamination of the reservoirs by magmatic components.
Since the beginning of the eruption, lava flows have covered ~4.3 km^2 of productive land, and preliminary data indicate an erupted volume of 22-35 x 10^6 m^3.
During this eruption nobody was killed, but several needed medical assistance, mainly for respiratory problems due to inhalation of volcanic gas and dust.

2 records were made: 1 at Cabo da Praia on 8th and 9th and one at Mosteiros, Sao Miguel on 11th.

 São Miguel
Our first stop at Azores after arriving from Lisbon was a two-day stay in Ponta Delgada for familiarisation purposes.
Though there are many good hotels in the centre of the city we rather stayed a little outside in a village and had reserved rooms at Hotel Barracuda in the village of São Roque only 10min and 1000 PTE by taxi from the centre of Ponta Delgada.
Shopping in Ponta Delgada offers a variety of small shops and of course the big supermercado Centro Comercial.
