Motor end plate -- Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia article
A motor end plate is the innervation of a (An elongated contractile cell that forms the muscles of the body) muscle fiber which causes ((physiology) a shortening or tensing of a part or organ (especially of a muscle or muscle fiber)) muscle contraction.
Motor neurons can innervate from one to over 100 muscle fibers.

The plate electrodes used to record the EMG are the same used for recording the electrocardiogram (EKG).
With the EMG plate electrodes it is possible to demonstrate the presence of electrical activity of a specific muscle (or group of muscles) for specific mechanical functions.

Neuromuscular junction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A neuromuscular junction is the junction of the axon terminal of a motoneuron with the motor end plate, the highly-excitable region of muscle fiber plasma membrane responsible for initiation of action potentials across the muscle's surface.
Upon the arrival of an action potential at the axon terminal, calcium ions flow from the extracellular fluid into the motoneuron's cytosol and bind to particular intracellular proteins.
The receptors are ion channels, and when bound by acetylcholine, they open, allowing sodium and potassium ions to flow in and out of the muscle's cytosol, respectively.

The impulse passing down a motor nerve is transmitted to a muscle across the motor end plate or neuromuscular junction.
Physiological conduction across the neuromuscular junction is by depolarization of the motor end plate by acetylcholine.
Normally at the end of surgery, the residual effects of non-depolarizing relaxants are reversed with atropine and neostigmine.

Generally, each muscle fiber (cell) is innervated by a single motor neuron near the center of the muscle fiber.
Despite the presence of the synaptic cleft between the axon terminal of a motor nerve and the motor end plate of the muscle fiber, the axon terminal appears to be buried in the surface of the muscle cell (ie.

Elucidation of the above mentioned considerations are needed by ultrastructural analysis of unmasked cytoskeleton in motor end plates.
Microfluorometric detection of the concentration gradient of calcium during the generation of the action potential in the motor end plate should elucidate whether the microcompartment hypothesis is applicable not just to neuronal dendritic spines but also to the motor end plate interfolds.

Muscle fibers are innervated by motor neuron axons at special locations along the fiber called neuromuscular junctions or the motor end plate.
When the impulse reaches the motor end foot of the motor neuron axon, Ach is released and diffuses to the sarcolemma causing an action potential on the sarcolemma.
Thus, the ability of the sarcolemma and T tubules to conduct impulses in response to stimulation by motor neuron axons at the motor end plate results in the release of calcium ions by the terminal cisternae of the SR, thereby effecting contraction of the fibrils and ultimately the entire muscle fiber.

Signals passed down through nerves to stimulate muscle contraction, need to be converted from an action potential into a chemical signal at the neuromuscular junction.

The signal triggers synaptic vesicles stored in the end bulb to release a signaling chemical into the synaptic gap.

 Cholinergic Transmission
Although the end result of curare poisoning is similar to that of excess acetylcholine at the motor end plate, as described in the last story, there is an important and fundamental difference.
The cause of death in myasthenia, in poisonings by curare or anticholinesterases and in succinylcholine overdose is respiratory failure secondary to paralysis of respiratory muscles.
Myasthenia is an auto-immune disease, but the antibodies are directed against the motor end plate, not acetylcholine as stated in the story.

Motor points are consistently located (with a few exceptions) in the centre of the muscle fibreĆs belly.
