The Mott family that gave its name to the street has been in New York since Adam de la Motte arrived from England in 1635.
The particular Mott whom the street is named for may have been Joseph Mott, a butcher who owned a tavern at what is now 143rd Street and 8th Avenue that served as a headquarters for General Washington during the Revolutionary War.

The one on Elizabeth seems to do very traditional dresses only while the one on Mott Street is more flexible in their design and will do it to your specification.
I believe the cost ranges from $200 and up but of course that would depend on the material and style you choose.

It is a smaller, dingier version of the newer Ping's which opened a few months ago and is located at 22 Mott Street.
I've never eaten at the older Ping's (even though several people told me it is quite good) because it just looks too dark and dirty to me.
And, of course, there is the much-debated NY Noodletown, which I happen to think is great.
