Mottingham is a place in SE9, England in the London Borough of Greenwich, although part (to the west of Mottingham Road) is in the London Borough of Bromley.
Mottingham was originally a hamlet in Eltham parish.

The first church in Mottingham was St Andrews Church on Court Road and was established in 1884, which further helped establish Mottingham as separate from Eltham.
A local landmark is Eltham College, a private school founded in 1842 as the London Missionary Society's School for the Sons of Missionaries, which moved to its present site in Mottingham in 1912.
The famous cricketer, Dr W G Grace lived in retirement for some years in Mottingham and a blue plaque marks his residence, 'Fairmont' in Mottingham Lane, where he died on 23 October 1915.

I was born in Clarence Road Mottingham in 1930 and then moved to Beaconsfield Road in 1933.
i am a student and will be moving to mottingham from portsmouth and would love to find a local team to play for can anyone tell me of any local leagues or teams cheers football this is.
Not sure your'll have to look on the internet but ive lived in mottingham for 10 yrs and the planes are not that loud and i dont here any at night.

This war memorial is in memory of the men of Mottingham Parish and is more unusual than most in that it is approximately 4 metres high, made from Portland stone and is a round `temple` design with the names listed on a six-sided centre piece surmounted by a small cross.
Again this was a surprising feat for such a small area as Mottingham, which may at that time have had a more recognisable identity as an area than today.
He also served as a trooper in the South African War of 1899-1902 and was an Air Raid Warden in the Second World War.

Historically Mottingham was an extra parochial district attached to Eltham, the name being first recorded in 862AD as Modingahema meaning the land of Moda’s people, sometime interpreted as “the proud place”.
The arrival of the railway at what was initially called Eltham station in 1866 (later renamed Mottingham) was the first spur to development and small cottage style houses began to spread along what is now Mottingham Road, the first shops appearing at “The Terrace” in the 1860’s.
