  The Old Moulmein Pagoda
It was not there, thankfully, that the verses led me but to Moulmein, south-east of Rangoon and renamed Mawlamyine by the ruling junta: one of their lesser crimes.
Moulmein's temples all granted me Kipling's wind-blown palm trees and "tinkly temple bells" but I was ultimately dissatisfied by what I had seen.
It wasn't Moulmein really, but I could see Moulmein across the Salween surrounded by bays stretching as far as the eye could see, and the peculiar geography allowed an inlet of the sea to the east.

Now SPDC has just opened the bridge across Salawin with the railway track connecting Moulmein to Ye railway with the rest of the Bruma railway network....
Herewith a 1984 1:250,000 RTSD Map Scan of Moulmein showing the estuary of the Salaween, which now has a rail bridge.
On the same map, there is no indication of a rail branch to Hpa-An, so I guess that is a fairly recent construction, Burmese (Myanmese) Govt sites indicate that the Salaween will be bridged by rail at that point too; presumably as part of their efforts to establish rail links with Thailand:-

 Ethnic leader Nai Shwe Kyin dies at 91 ( The Nation ) March 8, 2003
Born in 1913 in Kawhnat near Moulmein, Nai Shwe Kyin received a degree from Rangoon University in British colonial times before entering the British Navy with the rank of instructor.
In July 1958, the day after the Mon Peoples Front surrendered to U Nu's government, he formed the New Mon State Party (NMSP), which became the main party for Mon independence from Rangoon until the signing of a truce with Burma's ruling military junta in June 1995.
Nai Shwe Kyin retained the presidency of the party and lived peacefully in Moulmein after the 1995 peace accord.
