	Moundou - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Moundou is the second largest city in Chad, the capital of the region of Logone Occidental.
		It has a population of 99,530 (as of 1993).
		Moundou has grown as an industrial centre, home to a brewery and the cotton and oil industries.

		The Bishops of Moundou and Doba proposed that the Holy Father should create a new diocese of Lai, (Chad) considering the vast extension of their dioceses which caused difficulties in pastoral activity.
		They and the other Bishops were encouraged also by the results of the creation of Doba in (1989), which thanks to the dynamism of the Bishop has seen a considerable increase in the number of church personnel and acceleration in initiatives for evangelisation and development.
		Lai is the main town of the Tandjile prefecture, in the northern part of Moundou and Doba.

		Dr Abdoulaye Yam, the leader of a WHO team which investigated an outbreak of accute diarrhoea in Moundou, an industrial town 600 km south of the capital N'Djamena, said the disease had been confirmed as cholera.
		He told IRIN the Chad Ministry of Health had recorded 131 cases of the disease in Moundou since early January after the main pump at the town's waterworks broke down forcing local people to drink polluted well and river water instead.
		Yam led a WHO mission to Moundou, which lies in the cotton growing region of southern Chad, from 9-12 January.

		Mbaiterem Nasson, a FARF rebel imprisoned in Moundou, capital of the Western Logone, was seized by armed men and transported to the countryside where he was tortured and executed on August 6.
		The Moundou Tribunal sentenced to prison and fined an ANS agent for the attempted kidnaping of Damtangar Ley Gatou of the Chadian Human Rights League.
		An inquiry conducted by the Papal Nuncio and the Catholic bishop of Moundou confirmed that troops had occupied churches in at least six Logone villages in August.

		An important peace accord was signed in Moundou on April 18 between the Government and the rebel group known as the Armed Forces for the Federal Republic (FARF), led by Laokein Barde Frisson.
		However, fighting broke out between the Government and FARF in Moundou in October, resulting in the breakdown of the accord and arresting the downward trend of Government-rebel confrontation.
		In response to the October incident in Moundou, FARF rebels reportedly retaliated against the army in November, and followed this action with a number of alleged attacks on civilian targets in the region around Moundou in November and December, reportedly killing and abusing civilians.

		At least 80 people have been killed in Moundou, southern Chad, following a clash on 30 October 1997 between Chadian security forces and members of the former Forces Armees pour la republique federale (FARF), Armed Forces for the Federal Republic.
		Dr Merci Danyo was arrested on 30 October, he was beaten, tied up, and put in a plastic sack; there has been no news of him since his arrest.
		Dominique Djekoula, Alain Doumran, Mathias and Gaston, members of the FARF, were arrested in Deli, a village near Moundou, on their way back to Moundou from the capital, N'Djamena; there is no further news of them.
