Antiquities Near Miltown Malbay - Mount Callan
The Callan ogham was tortured till it said all its tormentors desired and what it never meant to say.
One side lauded him and his discovery, the other cried “forger” and “forgery.” No one thought of looking at the matter from a common sense standpoint of asking, why the one rational reading gave the name Conaf or Collas instead of “Conan” if it was the work of a forger.
The slab was certainly a late scholastic inscription by some mediæval antiquary proud of his rare knowledge of ogham.

The weighing-room spat between jockeys Neil Callan and Shane Kelly at Lingfield last month came to a swift end yesterday when both were fined £250 by the Jockey Club disciplinary panel.
The bust-up followed an incident during a race in which Callan's mount, Rock Music, who went on to win, came off the rail and bumped Kelly's filly, Elopement, who was unplaced, with Callan later being given a six-day ban for causing interference.
Explaining the result, Jockey Club public relations director John Maxse emphasised that had an official been involved in the incident, the jockeys could have expected a far greater level of punishment.
