Mount Holyoke (elevation 940'/286m) is the western-most peak of the Mt. Holyoke Range located in the Connecticut River Valley of western Massachusetts.
Holyoke is the namesake of the nearby Mount Holyoke College.
This led to a public outcry and in the mid-1980s the summit house, consisting of the original 1851 structure and the 1861 addition, was restored by the state.

Mount Holyoke College, which decided in 2001 to make the SAT optional, is finding very little difference in academic performance between students who provided their test scores and those who didn’t.
A spokeswoman for the board said that Mount Holyoke was typical of many colleges that do not require the SAT in that the college continues to accept the scores and to use them as part of its admissions process for students who submit them.
Mount Holyoke’s study is generally consistent with a study by Bates College, which made the SAT optional in 1984 and last year released an analysis of the impact of its shift over a 20-year period.
