It used to be "The Dominion of New Zealand" pursuant to a long-forgotten dream of a kind of federal British empire that one of our early prime ministers (Bill Massey) was keen on, but the "Dominion of" bit was dropped several years ago.
In 1856, the New Zealand parliament was given the power to enact its own law and nothing changed when full independence was achieved (26-9-1907) except that the British parliament lost its overriding authority.
New Zealand was not subsidized from England, or anywhere else.

The worst railway disaster in New Zealand's history occurred on Christmas Eve 1953 when the Wellington-Auckland night express plunged into the flooded Whangaehu River just west of Tangiwai, 8 km west of Waiouru.
On 31 December Prince Philip, who had arrived in New Zealand with Queen Elizabeth II eight days earlier, attended the state funeral for 21 unidentified victims in Wellington.
Henry Hopkins, William Appleton  and chairman Wilfred Stilwell were assisted in their inquiries by James Healy, the superintending geologist at the Geological Survey, DSIR.
