The park’s stands of older lodgepole pines have attracted a mountain pine beetle infestation, which is currently spreading eastward through the park.
BC Parks officials, working with officials in the B.C. Forest Service, Jasper National Park and Alberta, are tentatively scheduling the prescribed burn for the first week of May, if appropriate weather conditions are present.
Parks and forest protection officials have identified natural barriers that will serve as boundaries and ensure maximum control of the fire.
