Mount Kanlaon in Negros Oriental, the 13th most active volcano in the country, is famous for its crater, waterfalls, hot springs, gorges and peculiar rock formations, virgin forests, and unusual wildlife.
Mount Apo is a habitat of the endangered Philippine Eagle.
Lastly, Mount Samat in Pilar, Bataan, is known for the Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valor) atop the mountain built in 1966 in memory of the soldiers of World War II.

NEWLY installed Bataan Bishop Socrates Villegas said Saturday declaring Mount Samat in Bataan a Holy ground is beyond the domination of a clergy.
According to Villegas, the purpose of the celebration was not to declare Mt. Samat a Holy ground but to "enliven to the youth the act of heroism" that claimed the lives of many Filipinos during the World War II.
Samat is known to house a monument in honor of those who died during World War II.

MOUNT SAMAT, Bataan—Gov. Enrique Garcia lauded on Friday the volunteers from Miyasaki Perfecture in Japan, which for 15 years has been planting tree seedlings in Mount Samat as part of its annual reforestation activities.
Garcia said he was impressed by the dedication of the group led by Yoshitaka Fujioka, vice chairman of the Japan-Philippines Friendship Association, and grateful that they have chosen Bataan, particularly Mount Samat, for their annual program.
He pointed out that Fujioka, the group’s leader, is more than 70 years old and might have fought during World War 2; the volunteers, still young and energetic, enjoy their trek of the slopes of Mount Samat.

The initial objective was Mount Samat, a 2,000-foot rise behind the centre of the Philippine army’s coast-to-coast defense line.
By dawn on April 7, the Japanese had pushed a bulge 4 miles deep into the centre of the defenders’ line, and were commanding the heights of the northern slopes of the Mariveles range.
The first Japanese attack on January 9 was contained with heavy casualties to both sides and it was not until January 23 that the Allies withdrew to the line running from Orion to Bagac.
