Mount Scopus (Hebrew הַר הַצּוֹפִים, Standard Hebrew Har haẒofim, Tiberian Hebrew Har haṣṢôp̄îm; Arabic جبل المشارف Ǧabal al-Mašārif, جبل المشهد Ǧabal al-Mašhad, جبل الصوانة Ǧabal aṣ-Ṣawānah) is a mountain in East Jerusalem.
Unlike the rest of East Jerusalem, Mount Scopus was held by Israel during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, and existed as an enclave of Israel inside Jordanian territory.
Mount Scopus Memorial College is also the name of a unisex Jewish day school in Australia, the largest Jewish day school in the southern hemisphere.

The British also attempted to stop the Haganah from mounting a rescue operation, and the eventual attempts by the Palmach (an arm of the Haganah) to rescue the convoy were unsuccessful.

The name "Mount of Olives" really describes the whole mountain range running from north to south directly east of the "Old City" of Jerusalem, including what are today called Mount Scopus, the Mount of Olives, and Har HaMoshcha or the Hill of Evil Counsel.

When the Jordanian government reneged on the 1949 Armistice Agreements and refused Israeli access to the Mount Scopus campus, the University was forced to relocate to a new campus in Givat Ram in western Jerusalem which was completed in 1953.
After the reunification of Jerusalem in the Six-Day War of June 1967, the University was able to go back to its original campus in Mount Scopus, which had to be reconstructed.
