MOUNT SHUKSAN, situated in the northern part of Washington, about sixteen miles northeast of Mount Baker, was, so far as we could learn, never climbed until our ascent made in August, 1906.
The mountain is the highest point left of the primary upheaval and is a beautiful mass of igneous rock with cascade glaciers flowing outward on all sides, except the north, from a central snow field.
We left a record of the ascent in a glass jar under the cairn that we built, claiming the ascent in honor of the Sierra and Mazama Clubs of which we were members.

Mount Shuksan is a beautiful mountain and if any beast comes close to matching Shuksan's stature, I would have to say a Mountain Goat comes to mind.
I've also heard it said that Mount Shuksan is one of the most photographed mountains in the world.
He explained how there used to be a second crater on Mount Baker in the early 1900's.

If any mountain in the Cascades has a mythical feel, it is Mount Shuksan.
It is a rocky, ice covered mass strategically placed to receive what would seem to be the worst possible weather in the range, but with the current weather pattern Mount Shuksan was a prime target for a late season outing.
An ascent of this mountain has been described as a pilgrimage in which you don't know where you are, how you got there, or how you will ever get back.

 Cascade Peaks: Additional Information
I've read that much of the rock on Shuksan is metamorphisized volcanic.
Stuart, Mt. Shuksan and Bonanza Peak are good examples of awesome mountains that get left off of people's websites merely because they are not volcanic.
I think these mountains are some of the most beautiful in the lower 48, not just the Cascades.
