Although the Mount Sinai Park in Hollywood Hills has long been a center of the Los Angeles Jewish community, officials there realized more than 10 years ago that at their then-present rate of growth, the cemetery would run out of ground internment space by the year 2015.
Rabbi David Wolpe, Sinai Temple's spiritual leader, gave a brief but moving speech thanking Kaminer and donor Ruth Ziegler for their contributions to the park and noting the important role Mount Sinai plays in supporting the bereaved.
A unique feature of the memorial park is the Ziegler Center, a study center and museum which is being developed as an electronic library and archive covering the history of Jewish community life in Los Angeles.

This is a large cemetery, with two huge indoor mausoleums and countless outdoor graves.
Some sections of the cemetery grounds are a little unkempt (more than a handful of tombstones are broken or tilted by overgrown tree roots), but the tranquil area by the lake is beautiful.
And despite their age, both buildings are white and sunny (illuminated by stained-glass skylights), not at all the sort of dark and spooky environs your imagination might conjure up when you think of an old mausoleum.

In 1982 Neil Boyle was commissioned to design a mosaic for the Mount Sinai Cemetery in Glendale, California.
Italian artisans mounted the tiles on something resembling wrapping paper on, approximately, one square foot irregular shapes.
The original painting is hung in the giftshop at the entrance to Mt. Sinai, and prints are available for the asking.
