Mount Scott was named in honor of Levi Scott, a man who explored southern Oregon in the middle of the 19th century.
Not only is Mount Scott now believed to be a part of a complex of cones that combined to form Mount Mazama, it is possibly the oldest member of this complex.
Mount Scott, like all other surrounding features, was blasted by avalanches of hot pumice and scoria during the climactic eruption of Mount Mazama.

Mount Thielsen is a stratovolcano that has been so deeply eroded by glaciers that there is no summit crater the upper part of the mountain is more or less a horn.
Thielsen's spire-like top is hit by lightning so often that some of its rocks have melted into a rare mineral called fulgurite and the mountain itself has earned nickname "the lightening rod of the Cascades."
West of Thielsen is Diamond Lake and of the lake is Mount Bailey (a much less eroded and younger Physically Thielsen is made of a shield with a composite cone on top.

Mount St. Helens is in the southeastern part of Washington state, about 100 miles south of Seattle and 50 miles north of Oregon's largest city, Portland.
Earthquakes associated with Mount St Helens started occurring more frequently than normal on 23 September and yesterday were reported to be occurring at a rate of three to four a minute - almost double the previous day's count.

 Skiing the Cascade Volcanoes: Mount Thielsen
The soaring spire of Mount Thielsen is the highest of several eroded volcanic remnants which mark the central part of the Cascade Range in Oregon.
Several stages of heavy glaciation have stripped away the outer cone, leaving behind only the hard remnants of solidified magma which mark the inner conduits, with broad talus slopes occupying the gaps between the ridges.
The standard (and safest) climbing route to the summit of Thielsen follows the Mount Thielsen Trail to its junction with the PCT near tree line and then heads up the open, steepening slopes of the southwest bowl to the base of the summit pinnacle.

 Trip to the Pacific Northwest - Crater Lake
Mount Shasta is California's second tallest mountain and was quite impressive even hiding in its cloudy sheath.
We were all bundled up in whatever we could dig out of the car to combat the cold, and as we waited for the sunset we sat huddled in the trees along the rim.

I had reached Thielson creek and loaded up with yet more water: It was a long, dry trail to the next reasonable water, and even that was off trail.
Despite being in the Mount Thielson wilderness, sounds of rock music wafted up from down the hill, where a few cars and some locals were out having a good time in the semi-outdoors.

Mount Scott--This is what remains of a parasitic satellite cone of Mount Mazama that grew near its eastern base, presenting on the east a classic symmetrical volcanic silhouette.
Mount Scott is the park's highest peak, at 8,926 feet.
These were to be designated the Mount Hood Public Reservation (322,000 acres), the Crater Lake Public Reservation (936,000 acres), and the Mount Jefferson Public Reservation (30,000 acres), with the two remaining tracts (totaling 3,320,000 acres) to be restored to the public domain.
