Author talks with students about bullying | mountvernonnews.com
MOUNT VERNON — Kenyon college graduate Doug Wilhelm, author of several books for young readers, returned to Knox County on April 21 and spent the day with sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders at Mount Vernon Middle School.
Prior to Wilhelm’s visit, the middle school students created skits, poems, board games and artwork related to “The Revealers” and “Raising the Shade.” Thirty of the best projects were on display in the library and the students who created those projects had the opportunity to eat lunch with Wilhelm and talk with him one-on-one.
Drawing upon personal experiences, Wilhelm told the students, “A fair amount of energy is spent not talking about bullying.” He also discussed what he has learned through work with a large number of students and teachers, and used several scenarios to illustrate the important role classroom teachers play in the lives of their students.
