Beginning in 1979, animals from the Mount Baxter subpopulation were translocated to reestablish subpopulations in Lee Vining Canyon, Wheeler Crest, and Mount Langley in Mono and Inyo counties (Advisory Group 1997).
Consequences from the change in habitat use resulted in a decline in the Mount Baxter subpopulation due to decreased lamb survival, because lambs were born later and died in higher elevations during the winter.
In a 1996 survey on Mount Williamson, there was no evidence of groups of sheep, and this subpopulation was the last one found using its low- elevation winter range in 1986.

Barrick & Mount, 1993   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Barrick and Mount, 1991), we investigated whether moderators would affect the relationship between the Big Five and criterion measures within various job categories (e.g., professionals, police, managers, sales, and skilled or semiskilled).
For the managerial occupation we reported that substantial variance in observed validities remained after corrections were made for four statistical artifacts (i.e., sampling error, between-study differences in test unreliability, criterion unreliability, and degree of range restriction).
Barrick and Mount, 1991), we suggested that another possible reason for the somewhat low validities is that moderator variables may influence the relationship between personality constructs and criterion measures.

 I. MOUNTING MICROSCOPIC SUBJECTS. Part 1. Introduction - Liquid media.
In a research histology laboratory, or a pathology laboratory, mounting is the last procedure in the series that ends with a permanent histological preparation on the table, well after the 1) fixing, 2) paraffin embedding, 3) sectioning, 4) staining, 5) dehydrating and 6) clearing operations.
If your materials allows you the use of a white opaque background (indeed it is an advantage in the process of staining) you have recourse to the plates with several concavities, or to the little individual dishes that watercolour artists use to mix their colors.
This is not of course a long lasting mounting medium, but it is useful when you don't want to have your critters drying out, after a long session of microscopic work.

 Salamander Ensatina
Platensis is found all along the Sierra Nevada from Mount Lassen to the Greenhorn Mountains southeast of Bakersfield where it intergrades with the subspecies croceater.
A preferred taxonomy is one that clarifies the evolutionary relationships among the components and that highlights, rather than obscures, the complex interactions of the past and the present.
A new taxonomy may be required when studies in progress are concluded, for the present the Ensatina complex will be recognized as a single taxonomic species (Wake and Schneider, 1998).

For most botanic gardens and arboreta, maintaining aesthetically pleasing gardens, displays and shows is only part of the reason for their existence, (and often that isn't even the most important part).
Many botanic gardens carry out scientific research in the fields of plant taxonomy, genetics, plant breeding, DNA analysis and other branches of plant science that are largely "behind-the scenes".
For that reason they may need seeds of almost any plant, be it the most desirable garden plant or the nastiest, most vile weed for their particular research projects.

 Mount Hermon June beetle
The Mount Hermon June beetle is distinguished from other species of Polyphylla by the presence of relatively dense, long, erect hairs scattered randomly over the elytra and short erect hairs on the pygidium (abdominal segment) (Young 1988).
Mount Hermon June beetles were not found in surveys of suitable Zayante sand hills habitat outside the Ben Lomond-Mount Hermon-Scotts Valley area; nor were they found at locations with habitat not characteristic of the Zayante sand hills ecosystem (Hoekstra 1994a)."
However, the Mount Hermon June beetle is not known to occur in either the Bonny Doon Ecological Preserve or Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.

Mount Rainier National Park: Environment, Prehistory & Archaeology (Chapter 4)
Accordingly, the tendency for sites to be located on low gradient terrain, or to avail themselves of small flat-ground irregularities on otherwise sloping ground, is strong in the Mount Rainier sample (as elsewhere) and may be explained by the tendency to select such ground for a variety of task-specific and residential purposes.
Since Mount Rainier was almost certainly used during summer months, however, we would expect a tendency to maximize solar gain to be offset by countervailing considerations such as visual exposure, wind direction, natural rockshelter orientation and so on.
Commonly represented in the sample are side slope bench settings, ridge crests and saddle passes between drainages, cirque basins, and, of course, cliff face and talus rubble rockshelters.

TAXONOMY: CLASSIFICATION, IDENTIFICATION & NAMING OF ORGANISMS   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Typically, scientists compare the results of their keying against reference specimens, that is, preserved organisms that have been identified by an expert taxonomist (a person who names and classifies organisms).
In the case of plants, reference specimens are generally herbarium mounts of plants.
The specimens are then dried and mounted on sheets of paper with herbarium labels affixed to the sheets, indicating the scientific name of the plant, the person who collected it, the location and date of collection and usually information about the habitat in which the plant was found.

The DMAPI implementation sends the mount event message to DM application A in step 1, which is not interested in the event, so it responds to the event message with DM_RESP_DONTCARE in step 2.

SURFACE-MOUNT PONDS FOR SLIDER AND OTHER AQUATIC TURTLES   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
For several years the Tortoise Trust has been experimenting with alternatives, and we are now able to present full construction details of a turtle housing system that has proved extremely successful in extended trials with many different species.
Such ponds are lightweight and almost indestructible, have "soft" sides that do not cause bruising or other injuries to carapaces or plastrons, and contain far greater volumes of water at much less cost than any glass tank.
Although we have used large external canister filters, such as the Fluval 403 with Surface Mounted Ponds, these are not generally as easy to install, as they must be placed at a substantially lower level than the pond base — this is not a requirement of either of the recommended filters (above).
