The Mountain Home Plateau is bordered by the Danksin Mountains to the north and by the Snake River to the south.
Mountain Home Air Force Base (Mountain Home AFB) is located approximately 50 miles southeast of Boise and 10 miles southwest of the city of Mountain Home in Elmore County, Idaho (Figure 1).
The population of the base is primarily white (84%) and English-speaking (75%) (Figure 3, U.S. Census, 1990).

Mountain Home Air Force Base (Mountain Home AFB) is a base of the United States Air Force located near Mountain Home, Idaho in Elmore County, about 60 miles (100 km) southeast of Boise.
In 1953, the base was transferred to the Strategic Air Command, and hosted the 9th Bombardment Wing.
This lasted until 1966, when the base came under the Tactical Air Command and received the 47th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, then the 347th Tactical Fighter Wing for a brief period in 1971 before the 366th relocated from Vietnam.

 Fairchild AFB
Fairchild Air Force Base is located 12 miles west of the city of Spokane, Washington adjacent to US Highway 2 and 3 miles north of Interstate 90.
In 1947, the base was transferred to the Strategic Air Command and assigned to 15th Air Force.
The base took its current name in November 1950, in memory of the late Air Force Vice Chief of Staff General Muir S. Fairchild, a native of Bellingham, Wash. The general entered service as a sergeant with the Washington National Guard in June 1916 and died while on duty in the Pentagon in March 1950.

Mountain Home Air Force Base (AFB), established in 1943, is located on approximately nine square miles of land on a plateau southwest of Mountain Home, Idaho.
Base wastes were historically disposed of by several methods, including landfilling of solid wastes, discharge of liquid wastes to sanitary sewers, and the use of waste oil in fire training exercises and road oiling.
Based on the findings of the 5-year review, the base plans to further characterize the perched water zone and evaluate the potential for benzene to reach the regional groundwater and potential active controls.

Air Force officials plan to initially field the bomb on the F-15E in fiscal 2006 and later on the F/A-22 Raptor, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and eventually every other weapon platform.

Mountain Home Air Force Base is participating in the Installation Restoration Program (IRP), established in 1978.
Under IRP, the Air Force has investigated numerous potentially contaminated areas, including two abandoned landfills, a waste oil disposal area, four abandoned and one active fire training areas, and the entomology shop yard, where pesticides were rinsed from application equipment.
The Air Force has conducted a study to determine the type and extent of contamination at the base and identify alternatives for remedial action.

 Air Resupply and Communications Association - 1300th Air Base Wing
On 1 November 1951 the 1706th Air Base Group was redesignated as the 1300th Air Base Wing, under the Air Resupply and Communications Service, MATS.
The purpose of the 1300th Air Base Wing is two-fold: (1) To operate Mountain Home Air Force Base and (2) To train the personnel of the tactical ARC Wings.
With the removal of the schools from Gowan Field to Mountain Home, all training facilities were now in one organization and on one base, and all personnel of future ARC Wings proceeded through a consolidated training program as developed and operated by the 1300th Training Squadron.

A jet in the Air Force's elite Thunderbirds flight unit crashed at an air show Sunday, but the pilot ejected with only minor injuries and no injuries on the ground were reported.
Air Force officials would not disclose his condition, though immediately after the crash he reportedly waved to spectators.
The jets at the air show were from Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
