Gwinnett County has numerous parks and libraries, and the Gwinnett County Public Library was named Library of the Year in 2000 by Library Journal/Gale Group.
Lawrenceville, the county seat, was incorporated on December 15, 1821, and it is the second-oldest city in the Atlanta area.
Gwinnett Technical College, one of the largest technical schools in the state, opened in Lawrenceville as Gwinnett Area Technical School in 1984.

I was somewhat illogically proud when Mountain Park was mentioned as a town in the path of a tornado last summer...we were on the map!
Across from the library is one of the many charming older houses in Mountain Park (the owner doesn't know that I painted a watercolor of this house and it hangs over my bed).
Homes in the Mountain Park area include everything from 1910 bungalows to 1960's brick ranches, to two story traditionals, ranging from the $160s to the $400's.

Gwinnett County was chartered by the state in 1818 and was named for Button Gwinnett, the third signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Gwinnett who was killed in a duel shortly after signing the Declaration, drafted the first state constitution and served as governor of Georgia until his untimely death.
Gwinnett also has a Fine Art Center and the Gwinnett Civic and Cultural Center which is home to galleries and a sculpture garden, showing art from a permanent collection as well as touring exhibits.

Oh, Mountain Park has all sorts of community focuses, such as its vast Park, with its office in a former railroad station, and its swimming pool.
So the effort toward incorporation of the Gwinnett area known as Mountain Park hit a snag, and people lost interest, remaining part of the larger "unincorporated Gwinnett." By the way, it's the unincorporated areas that have the bulk of the county population, some 80 per cent.

Mountain Park Park is located at 5050 Five Forks Trickum Road in Lilburn.
As part of the renovation, Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation reconfigured the park’s layout, improving and enlarging the park’s seven baseball/softball fields and six tennis courts.
