  Mountshannon National School - Location
Iniscealtra National School is situated 1 km west of Mountshannon village on the shores of Lough Derg in North East Clare.
The townland in which the school stands is called Cappaduff and close by is St. Caimins Catholic Church.
The most notable of these was in 1981 when Mountshannon was overall winner in the Bord Failte Tidy Town competition.

The village is on the western shore of Lough Derg, north of Killaloe.
Mountshannon is a very well kept and pretty village, its the jumping off point for a visit to the nearby Inish Cealtra, (Holy Island) now inhabited (except for the cattle), it was once a monastic settlement, which is well worth a visit.
Mountshannon Harbour, is a sheltered south facing harbour, very popular in the summer months with cruisers, who pull up for the night and head into the village for a couple of pints and some traditional music.

A report by John Stevens, an English Catholic infantry officer in the Army of King James, stated that in the summer of 1690 whilst on the way to the relief of the first siege of Athlone "at Scariff begins one of the most deserted, wild, barbarous mountains that I ever beheld.
As you walk west from Mountshannon (on the Scariff road) to the right is a small stone building with a millstone leaning against it.
Continue on under the old oak trees back towards Mountshannon taking care to be aware of traffic on the main road.

Mountshannon became a popular sailing centre following the reconstruction of the harbour.
The island lies nearly half a mile from the mainland and 2km from Mountshannon.
Prior to 1849 it formed part of Clare, but in that year it was transferred to Co. Galway, until in 1899, soon after the passing of the Local Government Act, it was restored to Clare.

This project brings Tuamgraney National School children together with older members of the community at Raheen Hospital Daycare Centre, and runs in early May. Artwork and lanterns made will be shown in St.Caimin's Church and will be used for the 'Firework/Sound and Light Performance' at the Harbour, Sunday 4 June.
Irish Chamber Orchestra facilitator Diane Daly will work with children from schools in Mountshannon, Tuamgraney and Ogonnelloe in a series of music workshops as part of the festival's Education Programme.
The new pieces will share the theme of fire and will be recorded so that the participant will have a permanent record of their creative achievement.

From the first time we visited Mountshannon it was apparent that Ryan and Nicky's home was going to be a rather unusual build and now we can really see the results of their eco-friendly design.
However Nicky and Ryan are more than pleased with the results and are happy with the decisions that they made along the way.
